CUNY-Queensborough College

Is anyone attending or attended Queensborough Community College for its nursing program? I've accepted to this school and getting ready to persue my nursing associate degree there. I've spoke to a lady from the nursing department, she said it's very competitive to get into the nursing major in QCC. So far, I've completed 3/4 pre-clinical classes with some decent grades. I only need to take Anatomy & Physiology I to apply to the nursing dept.

For those who got into the Nursing program in QCC, can you please tell me what is your gpa for your pre-clinical classes? I heard the seats are limited and I am afraid that I may not get accepted to the program.

Please advice. I need your opinions and tips. Thank you.

Hello,

I just completed A&P I with a B+ @ QCC and am planning to apply to the nursing program. I know students in the nursing program that earned a B+ in A&PI who were accepted. This program is very selective and you really take a chance when applying that you should have a back-up plan in case.

My A&P professor said that this program is very hard to get into and the only thing they have going for them really is that this is the least expensive school.

The professor shared with us 2 stories of 2 students who earned excellent grades that weren't accepted into the program, one was a student who earned all A's after coming back to school after a 10 year break and because she received a C in English 10 years ago she did not get accepted to the program. Another student earned a B+ in A&P and did not get accepted but she did get accepted on a full scholarship to NYU's program.

Basically, if you really want to be a nurse, have your options ready and don't give up...

Thanks for your prompt reply lilyv727. I guess it's all about luck if you get in the program or not huh?! :uhoh3: I really hope I can get into the nursing program. I even went to the library and borrowed Anatomy & Physiology textbooks so I can start ahead. I heard there are a lot of things to memorize for this class. How was the class to you? Was it like a nightmare? Can you give me some tips on how to study for this class and what books you purchased for this class? ..and was your professor good?

Anyway, thanks again for your kind advices. I hope you get accepted to the nursing program this fall semester. Goodluck.

Stay positive, do your best and don't get caught up in thinking of everything that can go wrong. Most times it's a blessing for things to not go as planned. I really don't know what the method of selection is for QCC, in my e-mail notification I received more detail from this post and from what you tell me about your grades, you have a better chance than most but since there are soooo many people wanting to get into the program, one can never really be guaranteed a spot.

The best advice I can give you from my experience is to always come home and read your textbook, alittle at a time and don't get caught up on the idea "that you have to memorize", if you read and re-read the chapters over and over...and understand...you will be ahead of the game.

I could have earned an A in this class if i didn't get caught up in that idea of "memorizing" and jamming information into my head....once i changed my mind and my method of study....my grades improved dramatically. I got this advice from a classmate that received an A in the class.

Everyone has a different method of learning and the text book that was good for me might not be good for you, but i do advise getting a textbook that is easy for you to understand...my teacher did emphasize that all A&P books have the same information....so make sure you work with one that helps you understand. The textbooks from Shier/hole, I find to be easier to understand.
