Good morning I am looking for some information. If a patient has a positive culture such blood, urine, or wound we get a sheet printed out. The charge nurse goes over these and any antibotic that needs to be changed we notify the doctor on duty and then call the patient and call in a new RX. We maintain a log of all positive results and and when the patient was called and what antibotic was changed. Does anybody do this? How does your facility handle positive culture results for ED patients.
Thank you
Paul

We do the same thing essentially except as a charge nurse I put the result, the physician's order if any, and any scripts in a binder for the nurse who is specifically in charge of contacting pts with this.
