CRNA's in Dallas

Published

I work in ICU at Baylor and I finish my RN-BSN this August. I am looking to apply for CRNA school Fall 2011 for admission Fall 2012. I am new to Texas as of 7 months from Michigan and I am looking into the job availability in Dallas for CRNA's. Is there a strong job market in Dallas for the CRNA profession. I was told by the HR representative that Baylor doesn't hire CRNA's! I was shocked.

I would like to speak to someone that is a CRNA here or just get some direction and advise! Thanks in advance!

Recently interviewed as an OR nurse at Baylor, and they do have CRNA's in their OR. What may be the situation is that the CRNA's there do not work directly for Baylor, but for an Anesthesia group. I have seen this at several facilities that I have worked for that are Trauma 1's. I believe as of 2009 Baylor's contract is with Pinnacle Anesthesia Consultants- their website is http://pinnacleanesthesiamed.com/ hope this helps.

Yes, Pinnacle is the main group with Baylor and Presby and several other hospitals. Most CRNA's are employed with big Anesthesia groups nowadays. There are exceptions of course. But with the big groups you can avoid having so much call and get better vacation, etc. :)

CRNA is a great path. Hard work, but very rewarding. (cha-ching!)

Good luck!

Thank you both so much!!

Hi Bdixon817,

I am too relocating from Michigan in July and I was wondering if you could share your experience with me. Coming from out of state how hard was it for you to find employment? Did you run into difficulties because you were from out of state or did you wait until you were actually in Texas before you applied? What part of Texas are you in? How is the adjustment going for you so far? If you dont mind me asking can you give me a ball park figure of what to expect pay wise. I see that you are nursing in a specialty as well. I am an ER nurse of 5 years. Im just trying to see whats ahead for me, because my plans is to leave MI (Southfield) and head to Dallas on July 25th.

Thanks in advance,

I relocated from Michigan after graduation with my BSN. I did not have a hard time finding work at all. If I were you, I would start trying to transfer your license and depending on where you are moving in the DFW area apply for jobs close to where you are going to live. I can't tell you what to expect for your pay since I did not have any experience, but there are some great hospitals in the area and you can get great experience!

I live in Dallas and the transition is going well. You will miss seeing the seasons change and be prepared for hot summers!! Hope this helps!!

Thanks, I already have my Texas License for about 10 months now. I can't wait to move but will. Not move unless I have a confirmed offer.
