What are the licensure boards like in order to become a CRNA? I'm wondering what you do to apply, prepare, where you go to take the exam, how many questions (multiple choice, essay) there are, etc. Is it similar to the CAT format (like the NCLEX)?

It's called the National Certification Examine. It is a Computer Adaptive Test (much like the RN boards). You may have 90-160 questions depending on how well you do.
Most people take the Valley Review Course which I recommend. This test is no joke. You need to study a lot to pass it, period! I had the pleasure of taking it not long ago and my computer shut off at 90 questions. I still felt like I ran a mental marathon.

Isn't it amazing that they can distill 2.5 years of blood, sweat and tears into 90 questions?
