I am a third year adult nurse and I am due to qualify in August. I have got my dream NQN position in ICU and I am trying to get ahead of the game for when o start.
Could anyone tell me the most common drugs used in ICU/ Critical Care so I can do abit of swotting up.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Basics for ICU: vasopressors: levophed and neosynephrine for sure. We used those the most. There is also epinephrine, vasopressin, and dopamine, but I don't know how much you want to study at once. I would also make sure you have a basic understanding of ABGs. Know how to treat sepsis: 30 mL/kg IV fluids, abx, pressors, BC ASAP, foley to monitor resuscitation efforts. Good luck! You must also know your heart rhythms and buy an ACLS book and start going over the logarithms. Sounds like a lot but a good place to start.
