Let me start off by saying GOD is good. I am going to try to keep this short and sweet. In 2013 I got a dui in CA. This was the first time I had gotten into trouble with the law. I completed all the necessary requirements such as mandatory AA classes, court fees, interlock device, probation, and of course no drinking and driving, got my license back etc, MADD, community service hours. The time elapse since my dui has been two years. After graduating from LVN school, before my school submitting my paper work to the boards I made sure I submitted all necessary documents. For example a letter typed in my own words about what happened, all court documents OFFICAL signed and stamped by court, official police report, character letter from my charge nurse (I was working as an CNA), a letter from my substance abuse counselor noting that I did an extra 3 months of counseling no required by law, receipts of everything I paid for including interlock, MADD, community service EVERYTHING. After completing and passing the NCLEX-PN "yes the PVT Trick does work!" I received a letter stating that I passed, however due to my criminal HX there would be a delay in licensing until the boards have reviewed by case. So they then send your file to the enforcement department. If then you are missing any documents or need official documents they will call you and notify you. Make sure you get your direct contact information to the person who is working on your case. Be consistent and call every week if you have to. My case worker fortunately was very polite and returned all my calls after leaving voicemails. After she reviewed and completed my file it was then sent to an analyst. From there they review the completed file. I then received a letter stating "The board of vocational nursing has reviewed your criminal history. The conviction you sustained is directly related to an LVN license. Code Section 480 authorizes the board to deny license for any conviction of crime directly related qualifications, functions, duties of a lvn. HOWEVER when considering the denial, revocation of license, time elapse yadadadadada........." I just want to say if you have gotten a dui in CA, ONLY ONE and have never gotten into any other trouble with the law, allow time to pass to show that you are making changes from your mistake, complete, pay and submit ALL required documents in addition add a few references and NEVER EVER EVER make the same mistake again THERE IS HOPE FOR YOU WITH THE POWER AND GRACE OF GOD! I am now a LVN in CA and plan to become an RN! Stay positive all your future nurses and stay honest!
