Criminal LVN

Published

The school I want to go to in Los Angeles says there is a securtity clearance that must be passed to get into also. What does that entail?

what are they looking for? thanks.....:nono:

Security clearances are usually associated with jobs that require access to classified information, such as government jobs or jobs in the private sector that have government contracts. I think they are referring to the now standard background check for healthcare workers. You will have to be fingerprinted and a criminal background check will be run. This entails another fee that must be paid, and filling out the associated paperwork. If you don't have a criminal history probably no big thing.

I didn't have to be fingerprinted for my background check, but that may vary depending on which vendor your school and/or its clinical sites use.

az requires fingerprint checks through FBI and DPS

The vendor my school used was the FBI

They did require my fingerprints to do my background check.

Not getting info from state boards! But I wondered if there are LVNs who

had any past criminal history and successfully recieved their LVN license

in California. Thank you! I am about to enter a LVN program which of

course cost alot of money and time!!!

It does not matter what happened with another nurse, each file is reviewed individually and based on its own merits. I would tell you to wait until you have an actual response in writing from them before you spend one penny for school. There are significant crackdowns going on now because of all that has come out in the newspapers and on the national news lately.

I can tell you that they are getting much tougher on licensure. Even if someone has a couple of DUIs, they can now lose their license if one of the Boards in CA desires to pull it.

CA LVNs are handled thru only one Bureau, and it is separate from the BRN that handles the RN licenses.

I would most definitely wait until you get something in writing from them, and you will need to contact them in writing as well; and not by e-mail.

about backround checks, the girl i study with daily, she had a restraining order requested by her old boyfriend, when it went to court it was thrown out, but STILL i looked it up on the net and it still shows!.. only, ya it shows it was "dismissed" or something, i kind of forgot what it said exactly. i guess he just didnt want to live together with her anymore. anyway she showed me the paperwork, he said BAD stuff about her. i told her not to worry, that i was sure she'd get in. actually i'm pretty sure she wouldn't even if it was "dismissed. i mean when someone sees that i think it looks really bad. it would to me!! i was freaked out when she told me. am i wrong? she is young too, i hope he didn't ruin her life!

I have a misdemeanor on my record for possession of marijuan almost 10

years ago, and want to go for LVN in California. The board is not giving

a clear answer. But the website says it might be a reason to deny an applicant. I participated in a rehabilitation program, but the program is

22,000 and one year of my time. Has anyone had a success story with the

same issue? Thanks:nono:

Hope that someone responds to give you some hope but you are aware that each case is handled by the Board on its own merits and no one on this website can give you legal advice or predict what the Board will do in your case. You need to communicate with the Board and follow the steps they outline for you. Good luck and best wishes.

questions we seem to be encountering more and more often have to do with the effects of a criminal history on nursing licensure:

  • is it possible to become licensed as a nurse if you have a criminal history and if so, can i get a job?
  • is it possible to become licensed as a nurse if you have a mip, dui, or other related charges?
  • what happens if you are charged or convicted of a crime after licensure?
  • can i go to nursing school and/or be licensed/be employed if my record has been sealed or expunged?
  • will i be able to go to nursing school and/or attend clinicals with a criminal record?
  • what can happen if i receive a mip/dui/dwi or other charge while still in school?

these are questions that the members of allnurses.com cannot answer. the only reliable source of information is your state board of nursing.

if you are a nursing student or are interested in becoming a nurse you need to contact your bon and/or your school of nursing directly. you need to be completely candid with them as to the nature and disposition of the crimes. each board of nursing makes a determination on a case by case basis and some are willing to issue a declarative statement in advance.
