I am a prerequisitenursing student. I am currently taking Anatomy with a teacher thatmakes up the rules as she goes along. Today, I went to class to taketest one and after she was 5 minutes late, she announced she wantedus to do the first part of our test on the black board, delayingclass another 15 minutes. I felt frustrated with her randomlychoosing to use blackboard without any prior warning. After westarted the test and everything was going well...right? No! She toldus that she had a meeting and needed to end class at 2:20pm leavingus with a little more than an hour to finish a 100 question test, which average about 1.7 min per question. I finished my test andhanded it in to her. Although I believe I did well on the test. Ifeel unease with her fairly grading my paper. She's so wish washy andarrogant about everything. Her study guide of stuff on the test thatshe gave the class was so so correct except for questions that shehad on the test that she did not go over with us. I'll preparedmyself for the next test by knowing the facts thoroughly. ThankGoodness this course is a refresher course and I know some of theinformation. I feel she has favorites and she does not care about therest of the class. I believe she lied about having a meeting to leaveclass early. If she had a meeting then why not tell us about it atthe beginning of the class. I know people forget stuff; however, Isense she's there for a check and not concern with the studentsexcept for a handful. I answered a question that she asked the classand she responded in mocking, sharp way. Oh, Did I mention, When sheasked the students to raise their hands if they already knew the nineregion abdominopelvic region, I raised my hand. She's said you'd knowit. What kind of response is that? Getting through this class isgoing to be interesting.

I would just keep you head down at this point and try not to attract attention to yourself.

So what do you want the people on this board to do about it? You either complete the class and move on or you quit. You think you won't have challenging teachers? IF you become a nurse you will have doctors who will occasionally rip you apart. Are you going to quit? If you don't like it talk with the Professor..or don't. It is up to you. Nothing in nursing goes exactly as you want it to. You adapt and survive or you get left behind.

Do you think everything that is posted is to elicit a solution from another member?
I have a new professor for my A&PII class and I do not care for her teaching style. I think part of it is because my instructor for A&PI was so fluent in her subject and I learned so much that now I have unfair expectations of this new one. She says "ummm" a lot. A lot!! I also feel she reads too much from her notes. She also draws up some kind of lectute outline and has us fill in the blank as she lectures and I feel that is very "high school." I am trying to give this instructor the benefit of the doubt because afterall, she is new and maybe she is still finding her rhythm. I hope so because i was really looking forward to this class. I enjoyed the subject and the challenge

Hopefully this will be the only class you have with this instructor. While you are there just keep your head down and learn the material. Don't answer questions directed at the group unless nobody else speaks up. Especially as it sounds like you already know some of the material as this is a refresher course for you.

Sorry to not give you better news, but dealing with bad teachers is part of school life. Best you can do is get through it one class at a time. Some teachers suck at their jobs. I am sure unless you were very lucky you had some lousy teachers growing up too. Difference is now you are paying for school and a teacher that isn't doing a good job. Unless of course you grew up going to private or parochial schools, in which case your parents then paid for the bad teachers along with the good ones.
Feel free to come here and vent when needed, just indicate in the thread title that it is a vent thread so nobody [ or at least fewer respondents] jumps down your throat for what you say. Good luck and try to remember, it's just one class!

I know how it is clashing with teachers. I thought I disliked one of mine. She did what it sounds like yours isn't though, she decided to give me a new chance after we clashed for a while and suddenly was treating me different, as if she liked me. I took the new chance, and by not having any more negative thoughts about her nor disliking the class (I treated her and the class like new) it actually turned around for me a lot, and I really came to admire the teacher and learn she cares about her students. I wonder if maybe you started thinking about her and treating her different, that she won't respond to you that way. I'm not accusing you of causing her to act how she does now..I'm just saying sometimes teachers and students start off on the wrong foot and it just takes one person to get the other to start over. It's much easier on you to act like you like a teacher and are interested. I read the replies about keeping your head low..if that doesn't work you might try this!

Best to write all that down when the end of term teacher/class reviews are done. Hopefully your school has them! The only "crazy" teachers I've encountered was one at a university and the other at a community college. The first one made the final paper 60% of the grade on top of a ton of assignments worth very little each; no late final papers or make up accepted though. Quite a few people failed or did poorly with how the class was structured. The second one was a Chem professor who likes to degrade students, tell the students they are asking stupid questions, and make them feel bad when they get a wrong answer. I think she is somewhat bipolar and at same time, she did mention she doesn't eat much and lives mostly on sunlight and energy. Makes me question.... Hmmm.. The second one did embarrass me in front of the class on day one and I was upset for awhile but then I realize, I needed to get along with her to pass the class. Ended up getting highest grade but that was with much tolerance to her sudden outbursts and harsh criticisms, not just to me but also to my classmates. Glad I'm done with Chem!

I agree with Honey Clover. Keep doing your best and put it in her evaluation at the end if you can. If enough people complain, she will at least have to shape up in the future.
