Coworker refused to help me and then reported me!

Have a patient that requires two people. Where I work, it's very high school. Cliques everywhere and if you aren't in their clique it either takes forever to get help or they never do. Anyways, she, let's call her Dummie, Dummie decided to finally come after thirty mins and I had the patient at the end of the bed (which was my fault) and instead of correcting me on it and telling a supervisor, she told the daughter who came an hour later who exaggerated the story.

My supervisor pulled me aside and told me this. She said I'm not in trouble but she thinks I need more training. That's fine but I hate this job. It's extremely high school and puts n in terrible situations.

The daughter told me she doesn't want me to care for her since I'm not "experienced" and I could honestly care less but I like to learn. The staff who is "experienced" has been here for years, doing this job for decades or so I just started. I won't learn by watching someone else do so. I have to make mistakes in order to learn.

I'm asking for any advice and what should my next step be? I hate being put in these situations where I'm forced to look crazy. I made my mistake and I will learn but to be banned from a patient because I have to depend on others is ridiculous. I hate it. I'm currently seeking a new job and a hopefully more professional facility.

Yup/ Exactly why I really dislike working in a nursing home. I LOVE being a CNA but can't stand working with a bunch of women!!!

I think you will experience this no matter where you work to some degree. Some places worse than others, but it will never go away.

The great thing about homecare is that you don't have to deal with coworkers. You just have the family....and sometimes not even the family, just the clients you care for. I just don't like how there is so much down time and the schedule and pay is very rarely consistent thought..

In my opinion, the best way to judge ahead of time, the level of cattiness, is the ages of the women you will be working with. If they are mostly under 25 there will be more drama. Less if they are older or if there is more men.

I have heard some of the men I work with say that they avoid all that stuff by just going in and doing their jobs and not trying to make friends or socialize. Just do your job.

...and the only way to gain experience and learn is to just be doing the job and making mistakes. Mistakes will happen. People will talk behind your back. Don't go into a job trying to fit in...trying to make friends....just do your job. learn from your mistakes and ignore anything else. When they want to know why your 2 assists haven't been cared for yet,...tell them....they are 2 assist and you can't get any help though you've been trying.

Thanks so much for this. I don't try to fit in at work but it gets depressing at times and I work full time so having someone who is friendly is at least nice. And they're all older than me (ten plus years) putting them in an age range where this shouldn't even be happening. I guess what's irritating me is I speak up and say I refuse to care for someone if I am denied help but I get in trouble for refusing to provide care which puts my job on the line.

Then I would have to say it isn't just the coworkers but management as well and you would be much better off working in a different facility.

If you are telling your supervisors that you can't do 2 assists alone and you can't get help and they are STILL giving you grief instead of motivating your coworkers, then the problem is management and you will never get anywhere and your conscience as a good/dedicated worker will get you nowhere.

You can go online and search the facility's state rating. If it is a 5 star rating with the state, it will likely have a higher morale, more dedicated workers and less drama....altho there will always be a level of drama.

There are good nursing homes and there are not so good nursing homes. Sounds like you may be in a not so good one.
