Dear Jane Doe,

I am writing to express my interest in the ____ Nurse Residency Program in the Cardiovascular Thoracic ICU and Cardiovascular Thoracic Telemetry units. My critical care rotation at _____ Hospital along with my senior capstone experience in the ICU at ______ Hospital have provided me with a solid foundation and understanding of critical care nursing in the ICU. Being an individual with experience working directly with cardiac ICU patients, combined with my personal ethics that closely resemble the hospital's mission of of providing quality patient and family centered care, I am enthusiastic and eager to prove myself for this position.

I recently graduated with my BSN Magna Cum Laude from _____ University in early May 2022. During my critical care rotation in the CVICU, working directly with complex cardiac patients, I have developed a better understanding of managing arterial lines, ventilators, complex cardiac medications such as vasopressors, vasodilators, and antiarrhythmics, and interpreting heart rhythms. Throughout my studies and accumulation of over 200 hours in critical care, I provided direct care to patients with diverse cultural backgrounds where I practiced my skills in assessing, planning, evaluating, and implementing a multidisciplinary plan of care while focusing on patient advocacy. Interpersonal skills are other strong qualities I bring to my nursing care such as bedside manner, empathy, communication, teamwork, collaboration, and effective time management.

I am confident that my compassionate heart combined with my skills in adaptability, leadership, critical thinking, and high-pressure decision making make me a quality candidate for this position. I look forward to speaking with you soon.

Sincerely,

My Name

BSN, RN
