Cost of (Nursing) Education

Published

I am curious to find out how much did it cost you to get your nursing education?

My answer: $27,000 for BSN and $32,000 for MSN (yes, I took up student loan)

I think I'll be paying for my education until my retirement :(

I paid cash as I went to a community college that was $27 per credit hour in the early 90's to get my ADN and graduated debt free. In the mid-2000's I received over $5000 in tuition reimbursement and added another $7000 in student loans to get my my BSN. The good news is I got in Florida's loan forgiveness and in December I get $4000 of the loan paid off by the BON (which increased our fees many years ago to finance this program).

I paid as I went. No student loans. All I know is it was less than $10,000 for my ADN, including books.

We were very lucky in the UK, we actually got paid to go to nursing school when I trained. I earnt £400 every month for being a student nurse. Now I think our students get a bursary (grant) of about £4000 each year in addition all course fees are paid.

It is only through being on this site that I realise how lucky we are not to have to pay for our nurse education in the UK. I really admire those countries nurses that have to put all that hard study in and pay for it.

This makes me sick, becaues I actually thought well at least told myself I was thinking about becoming a nurse in 1990 and talked myself out of it....

OMG what do you see happening tuition wise in 10 years?

About 6,000 in student loans for CC alone....but another 18,000 in privates to pay for living expenses....

I do believe it was $12,000. This was LVN school, CA, 1990, 1 year - 40 hr/week course at a private college setting (vocational school only versus community college) I took out loans, and paid on them for MANY, MANY years!! No doubt I paid much more in interest when all said & done. I believe the interest rate was 8%. Looking back, I wish I had put paying off loans at the front & center when I first graduated! If only we would have lived more simply & paid them off sooner. Oh well..hindsight is 20/20 :banghead:

I'm a LVN and I paid less than $4,000.00. This was at a community college for a total of 3 semesters. This included books, malpratice insurance, uniforms, steth., etc. But also, this was way back in 1997 when tuition was $18 per unit.

Thanks! Maybe it would be a good idea to find an employer who'd pay for higher education, That way, you could get your BS or MSN without owing so much. I'm sure it would be more these days.

Aha! Loan Forgiveness....how does one look into that? Do employers in FL advertise that? If so, do you need to give them back so many years of employment? How common is this incentive? I'd like to enjoy retirement and not have to worry about paying student loans!
