Reaching out to any seasoned RN's who have worked or currently working for Corizon. I recently went for an interview at local jail through Corizon. I have over 15 years of experience as an RN in a hospital setting. I was offered a 'much' lower starting wage then my current pay at the hospital. Can anyone tell me if the starting wages they first offer to you are/were negotiable? How often and decent are the raises (couldn't find that info on the Corizon site)? I have also looked on the website for the average wages, but would like to hear it from actual experiences of fellow RN's out there.
Thank you for your help!

My friend who introduced me to correctional nursing says pay is lower than hospital and soso benefits. Their PTO is generous though. They are not very technologically ahead, they still use paper charts etc. This is California though.

I'll be starting next week and Corizon offered a better hourly wage than the local hospital and clinics in this area! About $3 more in this area of KANSAS and is considered to be great pay. I will be making less than I did at my precious job but will be taking home more due to decreased cost of living (moved from VA to KS) I have 2 years experience as an RN and this is a new specialty for me.

I was a corrections RN through agency-state nurse then private owners -PHS, CMS and Cprizon.(over 20 years in corrections, nursing) What made me quit was pay issue. I went from 36 hour a week ( 3 12 hour shifts) to prn status Due to change of status my pay was dropped 3.00 an hour. Their base rate for prn rn 25.50 hour . When I realized this -that my pay was the same as a new graduate it was time to leave. I did ask HSA and was told that is the way it is. They didn't care about experience as a nurse or in corrections it was not going to be changed for me. Scarey to leave comfort zone but I would not drive the hour drive for very long days for less money.Just my two cents. Thank you
Wow, that's not very much at all! And they dropped your pay? I didn't ask about the new grad pay but I know I'm not getting that much more. One of the new grad LVN disclosed her pay and she is making a little over $21! The RN manager did say that their pay scale recently increased for the better. Good to know your experience though, THANKS. I'll be moving next year anyway so this just more experience for me and it's only a 15 min drive.

And a lot of other states, including mine.
