I'm 23 years old. I've been a nurse for 2 years and 3 months. I was accepted into a large level 1 trauma university into a prestigious residency program. Of those two years, toward the end 2 months spent cross training in the surgical ICU while also working as a staff nurse on the General surgery floor. 2-3 months of which have been pure orientation of surgical and medical ICU. I will be an independent ICU nurse in mid August.
For the longest time I've been putting off submitting my FAFSA or signing up for college. At last, I did it! I've submitted my FAFSA. I've pushed aside all the fear and said enough is enough. I'm going full force. A lot of my lack of motivation translates to fear of the unknown but I'm grabbing life by the horns and taking charge.
It may sound silly but I'm so elated I submitted my FAFSA and will be taking fall classss toward my ultimate goal of being a provider (be it CRNA or MD or NP). I will focus on basic classes while I make up my mind (stats, US history, and chemistry).
The point is that just because I don't know exactly where I want to be 5 years from now doesn't mean I can just sit around and do nothing.
I am am so excited to be back in school and I love learning dearly. I'm ready to find myself again and immerse myself in learning. Continue to grow in the ICU and be valuable part of the team. Attend EBP committees, become a preceptor, and grow.
Wherher it be CRNA/NP or MD... I will make it. I'm on my way. Knowing I'm on my way is so exciting.
It took a lot of self encouragement but also being encouraged by my coworkers. I am such a curious individual. I am a NERD. A lover of pathophysiology of pharmacology of chemistry and how it all comes together. I love acid base physiology and electrolytes and EKGs. My preceptor has encouraged me to pursue my dreams of CRNA or MD for these reasons saying this curious nature is what those schools love about an individual.

Congrats. I'm a fellow trauma/surgical icu nurse. But add some neuro icu with it.
No question! Just feeling happy. Wanna share the happy vibes with the net
I have learned so much in the ICU! I've cross trained 1 week in the Neurosurgical ICU and all I can say that neuro ICU is a world of its own. Where vitals mean a whole different story than what vitals may mean in a medical ICU. Great place :)
I'm blessed to be at a large magnet teaching hospital attached to a medical and nursing school. My career advancement is always supported and encouraged. I love it. If I decide to do my BSN at my current place of employment it will be paid 100%! There will be no gimmicks as to having to stay two additional years. If you've been a nurse for at least two years you qualify for 100% reimbursement.
