Yale GEPN Fall 2011

U.S.A. Connecticut

Published

i thought i'd start a thread for those of us applying to yale for the fall of 2011 :-)

Angie and Chass...I hope we all get in because I can tell we will get along just great! I am a complete procrastinator...not feeling great about my essay (not my strong suit)...just got my last recommendation letter yesterday, so they are going in the mail tomorrow...and I just started studying for the GRE yesterday! I bought the book and verbal flashcards and am just going to do the best I can. Funny, we all live in CT...I'm in Old Saybrook.

I applied for the Adult/Gerontological track. My background is very non-nursing. I've been in the military for the 8 years and am looking for a big career shift!

Chass-what CC program are you in? I'm applying for Yale, UConn and the CC's (3 Rivers, Gateway, Capital). What is your background? Where in CT are you/

Allie- I'm at NVCC. It's ok. No complaints with the program itself, but 6 weeks into the program I figured out that being an RN is not what I want to do.

I was going to apply to UConn and Yale last year (to have started the program this past Aug/Sept), but life got hold of me and it never happened. I wasn't even planning to apply to the CC program and then I decided it would make a good back-up plan...hahaha... That sure bit me in the @$$, didn't it?

My background is in Urban and Community Studies (I just graduated from UConn this past May), and I'm applying for FNP (did I say that already?)

I'm in Oakville... next door to Waterbury if that helps you to see it in your mental map.

Good luck studying for the GRE... I'm not even going to bother. (lol) We'll have to compare score later in the week.

OH!- the reason I signed in here tonight... I just submitted my application!!! I'm so nervous that I missed an error in my essay or that my resume format will get messed up in the upload/download process. :uhoh21:

Application is finally sent!! So nervous, now it's just a waiting game. I am going to be on edge until december when interview decisions are sent. Anyone else here applying for the Oncology Route? Good luck everyone!!

Took my GRE's today and mailed in my references and transcripts...so the waiting game begins! Does anyone know the projected date we should here if we do or don't get an interview?

Hey guys....

Finally submitted the application last night, yeah!! Picking up my last reference letter tonight & in the Fed Ex box

it goes..I'm so nervous I have forgotten a school in the transcript section!!! On to the GRE...yuck!

KK I'm appling for Oncology also..

Allie..how was the GRE??? I'm taking on Saturday..

Decemeber 10th is the final reviews and we will have the announcements of our interviews the following week :uhoh3:

Now, we wait..

Hey Angiebaby 24

Finally found someone also applying for Oncology! What made you go with Oncology? Have you worked in the field? Oh and for the GRE I took it last week and did not do so well. Like you, I have huge test anxiety and I let it get the best of me. Usually in practice tests I was getting well above 1200, but for the actually test I just barely hit 1000. I suggested to just really relax. Do not let your nerves get to you. Also, keep up with the time. I ran out of time on both sections so literally had to click through the last 5 questions. Hopefully this helps and good luck!!

The GRE went okay for me...I did better than I did 5 years ago when I took it, so I was happy with that. I only did the practice tests to prepare, all of the review stuff on the website was helpful. I made a little cheat sheet of all the math I needed to review...like what formulas are for circumference ,area...etc...helped me to get better at the math I haven't done in YEARS!

I got everything in now except for the GRE, which is on the docket for tomorrow evening... I'm so nervous. I know that my GRE score won't make or break my overall application, but it certainly won't hurt to have a good score. (And with my lack of studying "good" is the best I can hopre for!)

I can't believe the deadline is almost here. Before we know it, we'll be on here obsessing over what time of day we'll get the interview emails and what does it mean that you got yours at 9:30 AM and I still haven't heard at 2:00 PM... Lol! Good luck to everyone! Hope to meet everyone in January and get to know you all next fall!

I sent off my application a few days ago, but I realized before I sent in my OHSU application yesterday that there was a really stupid typo in my resume (an apostrophe where there shouldn't have been one). Crap! I'm super bummed out. Maybe they won't notice?

Its ok babymidwife1, I also noticed an error in my resume too. I am just hoping they are reading through so many and quickly that they will hopefully not notice the error. Crossing my fingers :)..but in the greater picture I do not think they will dock down for just a small resume error. Hopefully!

Angie-

How did the GRE go for you? I bombed mine. And I don't mean "I was hoping for high 700s and got low 600s..." I mean bombed. I actually don't feel too upset by it. When the powers that be review my application package, they will have to notice that my GRE scores don't reflect my writing and undergrad grades. Sure, it would have been nice to rock the GRE, but I doubt it will make or break my shot at an interview.

I can't believe this is only the first (technical) day of waiting. 42 days to go....

I need some of your relaxed attitude :)...I was so upset when I got a 1020 on my GRE. I am just so nervous it won't be good enough, but like you said I hope they recognize that GRE scores do not reflect my ability to succeed as a NP. Keeping my fingers crossed, I want this more than anything!!! Well, good luck to everyone and let the waiting begin! :)
