Confused in Houston

I'm currently taking my pre-reqs at HCC because their LVN program requires a few pre-reqs and and ATI test as well, I was thinking of taking their 6 week CNA course so that way I could find a night job while going to school during the day. I'm coming from a call center background so I have no medical exprience besides my CPR class and I was thinking that the CNA job would give me a leg up on clincals. I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions or any info on that ATI test as well.

Well, I'm not very experienced but I'll share my story. I'm changing careers, starting nursing school this fall. I took my CNA course at a college that requires it for applying to its nursing school. I just got a CNA job in LTC and plan on working PT through nursing school. My main motivation is to get experience working with residents/patients before clinicals in school. The school I decided to attend admits on a point system with points given for experience as a CNA or EMT. It is a highly respected school with a 100% NCLEX pass rate and a high postgrad employment rate. I got in just at the cutoff point because although I have a 4.0 GPA, I had no experience at the deadline for submitting an application.

If a highly respected nursing school thinks that experience as a CNA is important for success in nursing school, well... that has some weight with me.

Thanks, that's exactly what I was thinking! Even though becoming a CNA will be a pay cut it will still provide me with experience that will be priceless when it comes to clinicals and dealing with patients. Good luck on you classes!
