I am a cardiac cath lab nurse. As most know we place pacemakers and AICDs.
I was recently asked by a Rep to fit qualified patient for external defibrillator. Which would sometime require patient to be fitted when in the hospital that I am currently a nurse. If the patient requires being shocked or has documeted Vtach/Vfib they will need an AICD. I am worried about conflict of interest? What if I am the circulating nurse or monitor? 2 other staff members are currently fitting patients. External defib and AICD are different companies.

Just declare your conflict of interest with your facility HR and manager.
As long as you do not sit on any committees or have decision making abilities for what products are used you should be good to go.
Many of us who work in industry also keep a foot in the hospital.

Does your hospital have a policy about something like this? If you're not violating a policy, you should be okay. Just be sure that those who need to know, know. It sounds interesting......
Before submitting my resume I spoke with my director about wanting to apply. He told me that he don't want to know about it and not to openly talk about it. I think that he is more worried about losing a staff member to a Rep position!
