Completing my pre-reqs at UNF but planning on transfer

Published

Hi! I'm currently completing the last of my nursing pre-reqs at UNF and should be finished after I complete MicroBio in the spring. Is it possible to transfer my pre-reqs to another school other than UNF? Does JU or FSCJ offer a program for first-time nursing students (college juniors and above) who want to prepare for a career in nursing while earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing? I did some research and it looks like JU only offers RN-BSN unless you're a freshmen accepted into their nursing school and go from there. FSCJ seems to only offer RN, and RN-BSN. How do I access the application process if they offer the program I'm looking for?

are you thinking about leaving the area? you could apply to UCF, UF, FSU.

i went to UNF from 2008 right after high school until last summer. I applied to their nursing program after doing all the prereqs, but wasn't accepted. I also applied to FSCJ because I knew a 3.6 just wasn't going to cut it for UNF.

I left UNF and now I'm doing the FSCJ associates in nursing program. yeah it's kind of backwards, I know. but I didn't want to wait around a whole year to re-apply to UNF. now I'm graduating in December and planning on going back to UNF in May to do the rn-bsn bridge.

so to answer your question, in the area, no I don't think there are any other BSN school options for you (unless you want to spend a fortune and go to chamberlins.) oh and keep in mind that FSCJ's rn-bsn bridge program is NOT accredited yet.

do you want to apply to UNF's program? from what i hear, it's wonderful. but from what i've experienced, it's terribly competitive to get in. good luck in whatever you decide!

Thanks for the reply (:

I do want to apply for the UNF program, but like you said, it's incredibly competitive especially with their GPAs. I'm planning to apply to the UNF one, but as a back-up plan I'm trying to find other programs to get me on an RN track so I'm not stuck in limbo for a year waiting for the next available UNF term. Do you know what the competitive GPA for FSCJ is?

i'm not really sure. they have a different points award system. I know I had 202 points from my grades and from taking the NAT. (kind of like the TEAS, except much easier!) but i remember they gave credit for having completed an english class, and another class that wasn't a pre-req for nursing. there's also a lot more space than at UNF, we have like 140 spots!

Really, it depends upon what your goals are. My DD is a combat medic (now in reserves). She took pre-reqs at FSCJ and applied to the UNF nursing program. She got the interview and then nothing. She tried again and nothing. This time she is going to FSCJ (with well over 200 pts) to become a nurse and will RN-BSN later.

IF you can get in at UNF AND want the BSN, you might just want to stay where you are.
