Community college --> BSN: Which degree from a CC is best? ADN or a non-nursing degree?

Published

Hi,

I plan to get a BSN. However, I will be starting out at a community college. Unless I am mistaken, it looks like I can 1) get a ADN and then do a RN-BSN program or 2) earn a non-nursing Associates Degree in something more general like Liberal Arts & Sciences (and cover all my gen eds and nursing pre-reqs) and then apply as a transfer student to a BSN nursing program? I know option #2 is not always possible because not all colleges accept transfers into their nursing programs.

What are people's thoughts on these two options? Which would be the shorter route (I am not looking for a "short cut," but I would prefer the more streamlined option ;) ).

Thank you in advance!
