Columbia University School of Nursing - Masters Direct Entry (MDE) / DNP 2024

Published

Hello everyone! This thread is for folks applying to Columbia's MDE/DNP program for 2024! Good luck :)!

Thank you!

I'm working full-time (+ another part-time job) and taking my courses during my lunch break. Unfortunately, I can't do the proctored exams since people are moving around me. Portage uses both lockdown (which is fine for me) and proctor software.

Oh wow! When do you sleep? LOL. I was thinking "maybe he could do it before bed"

Hey everyone! Super excited! I was accepted into MDE/DNP-FNP and am still in shock! I was planning on doing another program with a September start date, and I have been doing my prerequisites with a longer time frame. I can't pass up Columbia and the (a little bit) cheaper cost, so I'm shooting to get all my prereqs done by 5/29. I need to get Anatomy 1 and Micro done. Does anyone have any recommendations? Ideally, not Portage haha

You can take classes with MCPHS online. They offer these courses online and you have to have them complete in 16 weeks (you can also finish before). SCU offers 5 week  anatomy and Physiology classes https://acceleratedsciences.scuhs.edu/course-listing/anatomy-and-physiology-I/. I hope this helps! Good luck!

haha! Yeah, it's been tough fitting in all of the prereqs. But, thankfully, won't be working once we start!

Hi Pawel, I utilized GCU (Grand Canyon University) to help with some of my prerequisites. Their online program is somewhat flexible and doesn't have proctored exams, they are timed though and you have to complete by the end of the week. And they have 5-8 weeks courses online. Hope this helps

Thank you! GCU was one of the schools I was looking into it but I couldn't find much info online. Thank you for sharing your experience!

I did my pre-reqs at University of Rochester online in there nursing pre-reqs area. It's all self paced and not proctored. This was back in 2021/2022 though. So I'm not sure if they are still offing it.

Here's a link if you're interested in speaking to someone. http://www.gcu.edu/counselor/Melody.Bolz

Congratulations to all those accepted! Has anyone received a merit-based scholarship with their admission letter?

Is the orientation 3 days long ? Or do we pick one day from the days given for the MDE program and who is planning on going to visiting day?

The acceptance letter states that orientation is "mandatory" and we must attend all three days.
