Columbia ETP 2010

Published

Hey Y'all!

I'm getting ready to apply to the Columbia's ETP for 2010. I was just wondering who else was applying and what you were doing to make your application stronger! Also where else are you applying and what do your stats look like (GPA, GRE, experience, etc) ? I'm getting nervous as I start the whole application process and just thought I'd turn to the forums for some support and guidance!

I'm looking forward to sharing the journey with y'all! Hope to hear from you soon! :)

Thanks phd2np, your reassurance makes me feel a little bit better about relocating :)

hello all,

i was accepted into the fnp program and will be attending visiting day on march 5th. i am new to this site but i just want to say congrats to everyone who got in or got waitlisted and best of luck to all your future endeavors. i am looking forward to meeting all my future classmates.

phd2np, i will also be commuting from nj to columbia. it'll be a trek but i am already settled here and it would be more $$ and hassle to relocate closer to campus. are you planning to drive or take public transportation everyday?

Hi Caffreak and other current ETPer's,

I was wondering if anyone could shed light on the schedule during the summer. Is it 5 days a week 8-4? I'm just trying to get my life settled and rearrange schedules while i still can. Thanks for any info you can provide.

Hi CrstnBeach,

I was also accepted into the WHNP track and am unable to go to the Visiting Day on March 5th. I am planning to attend the general ETP Info Session at Columbia tomorrow. I asked Admissions if it would be possible to meet with current students or sit in on a class and was told that would not be possible tomorrow (unfortunately).

I really would like to hear more about the women's health track from current students, but it has been harder than I anticipated to do this! (Yale has been much more 'user-friendly' for me in this respect.)

If you have had any success in speaking with current students (and wouldn't mind sharing!), please let me know! Thank you!

Hi LuvNola,

I will probably take NJ transit to Penn station (30 min ride) and then the subway uptown. Both trains will allow me to study (or sleep) while driving won't let me do either. We'll see. Looking forward to meeting you and comparing notes.

I am a current ETP student if you want you can e-mail me questions about the program ([email protected]), though my opinion is not the same as everybody else's I can shed light on what myself and others think. Also, at visiting day they have a ton of current students there - they partake in the whole day - tables are set up by specialty with a current student of the given specialty at each table - so there you can get a lot of your more specific questions answered.

Oh yeah and the summer schedule is pretty intense ... if I remember correctly Mondays were something like 8am-4pm Tuesdays 9am-8pm, wednesdays lab from like 9-3:30, Thursdays clinical 7:30am-3:30pm and Fridays Pharm (ugh) 8 or 9am to 12pm ... I kind of blacked out my memories of the summer, so ... that might not be 100% accurate, but it's about right.

I am getting a little scared. The summer sounds hard core! I am trying to hang out w/family and friends as much as I can, I am already telling them that if all goes well with financial aid, they won't see me this summer.

Just out of curiosity, what is everyone's background? What have you been doing? I have been working in the Information Technology/Finance industry since I graduate college w/a Computer Science degree. I will be turning 31 this summer. So obviously I have zero experience in the health care industry besides some brief volunteering stints. I am not married and have no children. I tip my hat to you if you have kids and doing this at the same time. I already mentioned that I live in NYC.

Well, hope to hear from the rest of you :)

I was admitted to the Women's Health specialty! I'm so excited! I am 24 and have a degree in international development from UC Berkeley. I have minimal science/health care experience, and currently live in SF bay area. I plan on attending the March 5 orientation. Congrats to everyone! I look forward to meeting you!

oooladoula,

sorry for the late reply, but thank you for the information!!

congrats allison! :) welcome to the thread.

thanks for sharing beth. are you originally from NY?

as for myself, i'm 23, a UC San Diego graduate with a degree in clinical psychology. i have been working at a hospital as a research assistant in a sleep lab, so i've been lucky to work in the health setting for a couple years. i've done competitive swimming and water polo for the past 9 years and i'm currently training for a marathon. what else... i have a cat named potato :) that's all i can think of right now!
