Columbia ETP 2010

Published

Hey Y'all!

I'm getting ready to apply to the Columbia's ETP for 2010. I was just wondering who else was applying and what you were doing to make your application stronger! Also where else are you applying and what do your stats look like (GPA, GRE, experience, etc) ? I'm getting nervous as I start the whole application process and just thought I'd turn to the forums for some support and guidance!

I'm looking forward to sharing the journey with y'all! Hope to hear from you soon! :)

Hi Maxdog

Take some friendly advice and try another school. I reapplied took all the sciences over with a 4.0 plus physics and chemistry and I did not apply to anesthesia track. When you do not get into anesthesia they usually put you in acute care. Write a letter to President Bolliger and have them explain why you were not taken. It was not your GPA or GRE. They had some crazy other excuse for not taking you . WIth me it was my age.... Once they make up their minds they rarely change. Good Luck .You will go some place else and be very successful.

Hello everyone,

I was also accepted for the psych NP track and am very excited about that. I'm trying to figure out how much attending Columbia is going to cost me. When I look at the tuition and fees it shows a certain amount of money per point. Is a point a credit? Has anyone else figured out how much the program is going to cost?

Hi all -

I have been following this thread for weeks and it was greatly comforting and helpful during the stressful wait! Now we know - at last!

I got in to the midwifery program - is anyone else going for midwifery? I am so excited - I still can hardly believe it - it's a far cry from my previous carreer as a classical singer - but hopeful a much better fit...

CONGRATS TO EVERYONE - and those who didn't make it - take heart - you will find your path - and hopefully pay less tuition :-)!

Hi All,

Brand new to this board and was just accepted to the ETP WHNP program. Its the only one I applied to, so glad to make it in! I have briefly perused the previous postings and haven't seen any others accepted to the program yet...

I am not able to make it to accepted student day in March. I'd love to take a current ETP student (any specialty!) out for coffee and hear more about the schedule of the program.

Cheers & congrats to everyone as they start to hear back.

Congrats everyone! Opera Doula, I'm in for the cnm program. I'm 90% sure I'll be going to Columbia. I'm waiting on one more school but NY is a better job market for my husband than the other school so I believe I'll end up at Columbia. That said, is anyone from the bay area? Going to the accepted students day? I think we have to take the BLS Healthcare Provider CPR class and it might be fun to take together/get to know one an another?

Here's a question to any current or past ETP students -

Which pre-req (if any) was the best or most relevant to your BSN year at Columbia? Is there any material specifically that you suggest reviewing between now and June to help new BSN students start off on the right foot?

I'm in for Acute Care! So excited, still have to work out the details but pretty sure Columbia will be my choice.

ooooladoula I am in SF, but not attending the orientation day in March.

sfrntobe,

I'm going to the accepted student day, it just so happens I was planning on being in NY for a wedding related thing. Let me know if you end up deciding on Columbia...would be good to have someone to hash out the big move across the country if I end up accepting as well!

sfrntobe & ooooladoula,

I moved to NYC from SF two years ago. I miss the Bay Area so much! Good luck with your moves!

Wow, lots of San Franciscans!! I too will be moving from the lovely SF if I attend Columbia. It's nice to know that there will be folks from home in the program. =)

Hi Everyone!

I was just accepted into the ETP for the NNP program =)! Is anyone currently in this program or has anyone recently completed it that could throw some insight and advice my way? I was also accepted into TJU's Accelerated BSN/MSN program and I am having a difficult time deciding between the two because, I am not sure in the long run if the Ivy degree will take me that much further in nursing (which is an important factor because CU's tuition is more than double, close to triple that of TJU's). Also the programs are set up a little differently, at Jeff students start clinicals 3 days a week and classes two right off the bat, whereas from what I understand Columbia starts with intensive classroom time first and then rack up the clinical hours towards the end of the program. Advantages/disadvantages to these set ups? I am totally open to any and all opinions. Anyone have thoughts? Also I am from Philly so I would need to move up to NYC, has anyone lived on CU's on campus housing?

Thanks Congrats to ALL!!

dear a1551 & fl4763,

first of all, many congrats to both of you (as well as those who were accepted into cu etp program)!!!

i'm new to the forum (this is my first posting) and am planning to apply to anesthesia program @ cu in 2011.

it would help me tremendously if you can please share with me if you had applied to any other school w/ anesthesia program, and also share with me your brief resume (background / experience) along with stats such as gpas - undergrad & pre-req, and gre. (ball park ranges are fine). lastly, can you please share with me why you think your applications stood out from the rest? (any specific strategies, compelling personal statements, recommendation letters, volunteer services, etc).

as a start, my stats are bs w/ 3.1 gpa, w/ no pre-reqs and gre yet. i'll be interviewing for my volunteer svcs position in nearby local hospital at the end of this month. (as you can see this will be a long way for me...)

i understand that these types of information can be sensitive, so if you can share your insights either via pm, or via my email - [email protected], would very much appreciate it. otherwise, replying to this posting will be fine as well.

anyone, who like to share their insights about how a prospective student can make a better candidate for cu etp program, please feel to share.

once again, many congrats to all of you, and i hope to learn from you all.

best,

brian
