Possibly moving to AURORA, CO!! Please respond :)

Hi everyone!!! I'm in SC right now, but we might make the move over to Aurora (I see that's near Denver) in 6months to a year from now. I have some questions if anyone could answer :) I'm a newer nurse, started a job in September 2010.

What is the Aurora area like (if you live there, been there)?

Is it crowded?

How is the job market?

What is the pay like? (starting out at my hospital is just less than $19/hr).

I do NOT like beside nursing and would like a school nurse, clinic, or other job in a hospital that is more m-f 8 hours. What are the options there as far as hospitals, clinics, etc?

What are some good neighborhoods in the area?

What are the housing prices like?

Where do you work and why do you like it or dislike it?

Any other input would be great!!! :)

My cousin is a realtor in that area. I don't care for Aurora much but she lives in Centennial, it's right next to Aurora and I think a nicer area with better schools. JMO If you can you should try to come out for a weekend and scope out the area and surrounding areas.

If you want I can message you my cousins number and she could give you info on housing prices, neighborhoods and that type of info. She has been working in that area a long time so she would know good. I am not sure about the RN info. I am in Fort Collins. I know new grad hospital pay is around 23-25 an hr but you won't be a new grad and don't want hospital so not a lot of help. LOL

Anyway let me know if you want her email or number and I will give it to you so you can get the housing and neighborhood information.

If I had to pick a town in Colorado that I would be least likely to live in, Aurora would be it. It's just one giant, ugly suburb. Hospital nurses start around $23 per hour.

Oh, this city doesn't sound good at all!! The district looked big, and the houses seemed nice from what I saw. It's hard to tell from the Internet :p I'll look into the city mentioned. What other cities near the base are nice? If I can help it, I'm not working in the hospital. I'm miserable here at the hospital, so it's one of my last resorts.

The Front Range Urban Corridor stretching Colorado almost north to south is more or less one continuous metro area. Aurora is among the crappier locales therein. Great hospitals there though: University, Childrens, Medical Center or Aurora

I guess I need to do more research. It looks like Aurora is such a large area, and it's the closest to the base. I'll try to see if there are other towns/cities around the base as well. Thanks.

As you can tell, Aurora has a bad rep. But the truth is much of it very nice. It has a population of over 300,000 and is as big as Denver, so of course there are bound to be some places that aren't all that great. And yes, like another poster mentioned there are some great hospitals there.

OH darn! haha! I thought I mentioned where in my OP. We might relocate to Buckley AFB, which is why I want to stay in an area close to the base if possible.

I live in Aurora and it has been perfectly fine. I moved here 2 years ago and had no idea where a "good" or "bad" area to live would be. I love my town-home, I have great neighbors and I feel safe. I think it is very diverse here and there are areas that are better than others. I work at The Medical Center of Aurora South for 1.5 years and I enjoy it very much. They are looking for nurses on my floor right now too! Need anymore information, I will gladly help you.
