Anything new on DSON?

U.S.A. Colorado

Published

I am meeting with the Director of Admissions next Friday about beginning my BSN in October of 2006. I too am very nervous about their lack of accredidation, especially given the fact that I am paying like $30K for my degree there. But, I am number 930 something on the wait list at ACC, and they are number 450 something as of today, so the chances of me getting in there before 2007 is slim to none. I know ACC has a great program and would love to go there, but I am 30, 4 pre-reqs shy of starting a BSN program and don't have the GPA to compete at Regis or CU, I wish I did. I am ready to be done with my degree and start working as a nurse. This seems like a great option for me, and I hope I am not getting my hopes up about something that sounds too good to be true.

Anywa, I've seen a few threads here about this school, and there have definitely been opinions on both sides. It's been a couple of months now, so I was wondering if there has been anything with this school that might be helpful in me making my decision? I think somewhere along the way I read that they should come up for consideration for accredidation in February of 06, which is just a few months away. Is this still the case? Does anyone know how it's looking for them?

Any information you have, either way, would be much appreciated.

Well looking at their FAQ they are approved by the Colorado Nursing Board...but yet makes me worry for those that don't plan on staying in CO all their life if their degree will be honored in other states. Hopefully they will get their accred soon.

I'm glad you posted what the list is currently at ACC...I've been waiting a week to find out the lastest waitlist number.

I wish I could help out more...keep looking around there are other community colleges also you could check with to see how bad their waitlists are currently

Good luck!

Don't forget, ACC isn't accredited by the NLNAC either.

Yeah ACC isn't accredited by the NLNAC. I was totally intending on transfering to the RN to BSN Online program through CU Heath Science Center which is Accredited by the NLNAC after receiving my RN from ACC.

Good luck to you :)

I had no idea they were not accredited. Wow, I am so surprised.

Thanks for the responses. I am just so tired of sitting on a wait list to finish my degree, especially given the fact that I only have 4 classes left for a BSN and one for the associates at ACC, which I put off taking this semester because I knew I was at least 2 years out on the wait list. The guy at ACC I spoke to said the reason there is such a wait list at all the schools is because of the clinicals. They can only have a certain amount of nurses in the hospital at a time to do their clinicals. He said they are supposed to be starting to utilize all three shifts to get the clinicals done. I think right now they only use one, maybe two shifts. He said that should start alleviating some of the wait list.

Just because it isn't Accredited, doesn't mean it's not a good school. Many former CCD Nursing grads go on to do great things. I have a friend in Albuquerque who's got her Associate's from CCD and she says it hasn't hurt her one bit.

This is my first post on this site, I hope it works! I'm wondering how you all are doing at DSON? I visited the school and got an information packet but I'm still checking out my options. I have an M.A. in elementary ed. but would like to be a nurse. The waitlists for schools here in Denver are unbelievable and it seems like it's either "cheap/long wait" or "expensive/no wait." I really wish that DSON wasn't changing their program because I want to go to school to be an LPN first and then do my RN course work. I'm 31 years-old, married, and I have a six year-old son and I'm worried that the course load for the RN program would take too much time away from my family, especially since I need to work at least part-time.

Has anybody considered UNC's BS program in Greeley? Just a suggestion; I checked them out three years ago and they didn't seem to be as competitive, of course lots has changed re nursing school in the last few years.

Picking up clincial schedule next week! Program starts January 3rd - just finishing pre-req courses at DSON and so far really enjoying it. :)
