College Freshman in Need of Advice

Published

Hey, I'm just finishing up my first semester at UW-Madison and have not yet been admitted into the nursing program. I have not really made a decision into what division of nursing I would like to go into, but CRNA is definitely one of the favorites on my list. The problem is that I'm not 100% sure what classes beyond normal pre-reqs I should be taking. I asked my counselor, but all she did was direct me to the UW-La Crosse program website, which is a program I am not very interested in and seems to have more pre-reqs than any other school (Do most schools want 2 semesters of physics?)

I would like to stay in the Midwest, and looked up as much information as I can on Mayo, UMN-Twin Cities, Rosalind Franklin, and Rush. I was wondering if anyone could help me with what classes I should take beyond my normal nursing pre-reqs to be considered for these schools.

Here are the classes I already plan on taking:

Chemistry 103 and 104 (first two semesters)

Biology 101

Anatomy

Physiology

Biochemistry

Thanks for the help!

Specializes in CRNA.

Just get into the nursing program and graduate. If you take any extra classes take extra bio, or chem. Focus on the schools that you'd like to get into and see what they require that you don't have. Don't worry too much at this time you are far away from even graduating nursing school. Just enjoy your BSN...it's a breeze compared to CRNA school. I wish I would have enjoyed it more.

Good luck

Normal prereqs are basically all you need, except for a few schools that ask for a semester of either organic or biochemistry. I'm not looking in your area, but as long as you've checked out the websites of the schools you're looking at and they don't require anything additional, focus on keeping your GPA up throughout prereqs and NS. Good luck!
