Hi everyone!
I'm a college freshman. I am a pre-nursing major and I just found out that I failed my general biology course. I did try my best but I had continuous personal issues the entire that were standing between me and my school work that caused me not to do so well this semester. I did really well last semester. I know I can do much better once these obstacles are out of the way, but how much will this impact my ability to get admissions into a nursing program for both BSN and ADN?
Thank you in advance for everyone's answers!!

Can you just retake the class, if not failing grades are detrimental. When I was doing my prerequisites you need to have at least a C in general bio to take anatomy and physiology which nursing schools require before applying. I would retake it immediately, we have all had to retake classes its no biggy. After not getting in a BSN program with a 3.91 GPA I retook the two classes I had B's in...

Bio is going to be a prereq for any real nursing program. I think you already know the answer to your question. You'll have to pass it, and get at least a B.

Wow. Was the program you applied to really that competitive? Because that's a really good GPA..
OHSU ABSN (Oregon Health and Science University). I still didn't get in with a 4.0 and a B.S. Sociology, years of CNA experience, etc. Lol. I did get into there traditional BSN program this year though and Ill take that I am so excited to finally start! I don't know what it is like in the rest of the country but Oregon doesn't use any exams like HEAS (?) or is it TEAS (?) so a lot rides on your GPA/previous degrees and experience.

Op,
Do not just jump back in and take it. Make sure you have every thing else squared away before attempting this class again. Life happens to all of us. And if you are in a situation like this again. Withdraw from the class instead of taking the failure.

I failed general biology my freshman year of college. My school is a research based university, they are known for their research and science... And with that, the science classes are extremely hard (people rec you take them at Cc if you can, I should've listened). Anywho, I failed. The next year, I took it again, worked really hard, and it was easier the second time around, because I was familiar with some material. I ended up getting a B that time. I am now getting ready to start a BSN program in the fall. Failing a class isn't the end of the world. Retake it!
