My husband and I are getting ready to move to the Douglassville area as long as everything goes well with his potential job. I have an interview for an ER job at WellStar's Cobb ER.
Besides what is on their website I don't really know anything about their hospital or ER. I'm not familiar with the area really since we live in Cincinnati right now.
Right now I work on a very busy telemetry step down unit where all of my patients are on heart monitors. I usually have between 4 and 6 patients on day shift, with aids thankfully doing everything but vitals and passing meds. I literally have no patient contact except for to run in, take vitals, throw meds down their throat and run to the next room. I'm ready for some patient contact and better work conditions. I leave work every night hoping I won't get sued for hurting someone because we are rushed all of the time. I work at a hospital in a poor part of town that loses $ every month because most of our patients have no insurance and are frequent flyers. There for we are always short staffed.
I'm just looking for some info about this hospital system and possibly the ER if anyone knows about it. I don't want to end up in a position that I hate like I do now. I like what I do, but hate where I work.
Thanks!

I'm in the same boat as you so would benefit for some information about the Wellstar system. I'm out of state (NC) and moving to Kennesaw in August. Trying to get in with the wellstar system but their online application/email process, and phone bank system is inadequate I feel. I never hear responses from anyone and I never can get the number of the person I'm trying to reach. I've lucked up somewhat with a person on these boards that currently works at wellstar. W/O her help I don't know what I'd do!!! I'm just looking for information about the new grad orientation experience. How long is precepting and how well it goes? Are there any classes that you take as a new grad, etc.

Wellstar is competitive with new grad pay (I don't know about experienced RN pay). There are decent benefits and they are adding and upgrading existing benefits as well. I don't believe there is relocation assistance. Cobb ER has recently been updated and expanded. There are plenty of opportunities their to learn and grow. I've been happily employed as a tech and now will transition on a medical floor as an RN. I take NCLEX next week. I don't have experience actually working for Cobb ER, but once you are hired you are eligible to transfer in 6 months to any Wellstar facility.
Good luck and let us know how it turns out! Did you interview already?
My new grad orientation will consist of a Patient Care orientation of one week and preceptorship 8-10 weeks. This is for a medical tele floor. Other areas areas are longer. Cobb and Kennestone are both starting the AORN perioperative program in the fall. My friend interviews next week for that. It is very intensive and lasts one year. There are also various other classes new grads will be sent to as they come available. The new grad transitions program lasts a year where you will receive support.
Good luck with your move!
