I am a second semester ADN student in the Baltimore-Washington area of Maryland. I currently work in an Emergency Room (frequently floating to Pediatrics) as a ER Tech, and volunteer in my spare time as an EMT. My goal is to eventually become a flight nurse. I realize that it takes many years of working in the critical care setting to gain the experience necessary to advance into the flight nurse arena, so I am looking at my options. While the hospital that I work at does not deal with "sick" kids (we ship them out), I really enjoy the time that I spend in the pediatric unit.
This coming summer is a prime opportunity for me to find an intern/externship, so I've been doing some looking around. I see that Children's National Medical Center in Washington, DC has several "CCT" (child care technician) openings that are advertised as externship positions. I am particularly interested in working in the PICU. Has anyone had experience with this particular program? Any recommendations for good facilities/programs that I should look into?
Thanks for your help!!
