Hey everyone,
Im looking to apply to a CNM program in the near future and curious about a few things.
1) what would be considered a "good" BSN gpa? I know that getting into a CNM program can be pretty competitive and I am not sure how my gpa will hold up in comparison to others. I graduated with a 3.47 overall gpa
2) How important is L&D experience when applying to CNM programs. Is it a must?
I will have 5 years of nursing experience when I apply. 1 year in adult medsurg/heme-onc and 4 years in pediatric heme-onc and bone marrow transplant.
Any advice/input is appreciated. I am so nervous about starting the application process
Thanks!!!!!

I don't believe L&D experience is always essential for admission to a CNM program. Though this depends upon the program.
I do believe that L&D experience is useful for a future midwife.
Is there anything you can do to demonstrate your specific interest in providing maternity care? Doula training? Lactation training? Continuing ed courses in topics surrounding midwifery, women's health, obstetrics, newborns? AWONN's fetal monitoring course?
No idea on the GPA - I'll leave that to other posters.
Thanks for responding :) im going to try volunteering at planned parenthood and some women's clinics in the next year. I wish i could do more but have zero time. I work full time as the only income and have two small children (not in school yet)
i will also try to look into some doula training

You should begin looking into specific programs for GPA requirements. I'm sure you will be able to find a program that will accept your GPA :) Good luck!

3.47 is a solid and competitive GPA. I wouldn't worry about it. Just make sure the rest of the application is strong especially your essays.
