CNA raiding Hawaii's nursing union

by now i am sure you have been exposed to the propaganda that some folks want you to believe is in your best interest. bringing in the california nurses association to "assist" cbo in collective bargaining is not in my opinion in your best interest. neither is disaffiliation from ana, the american nurses association. these are two major issues on the level or greater of taking a strike vote. it should have been taken back to the members to vote on. i hope i am not the only staff nurse that feels this way.

your very way of practising as a registered nurse or other worker covered by cbo is at stake. come and say how you really feel at two important meetings

What makes you want to come to Hawaii. I grew up here. when to school in NYC. worked there for 5 years before comming home. Do you want my advise? :smokin:

Well, my husband is active duty Coast Guard and we are getting transfered there for four years. It will be a nice change from Kodiak Island Alaska...what can I say, I like island hopping :coollook:

Your a new grad?

I recomend Queen's medical center or Kaiser. If you can get into ICU as a new grad you should consider it.

Yep just found out I passed the NCLEX-RN yesterday...sheesh glad that's over with. I have been considering ICU..really enjoyed that rotation during school clinicals. I didn't think they would hire new grads in ICU though?

Contact human resources for all the hospitals. The hospitals have new graduate programs starting a couple times a year. Most have online applications plus phone interviews. Hawaii Pacific Health owns quite a few hospitals. You will see all about them if you look up on the web.

A local staffing agency will send new graduates to facilities like prisons, pay is $30.00 hr, work as little or as much as you want a week. That is a good option for some until they find their first hospital job.

i have been an active member of hna and cbo for over 20 years. i also served 4 years in a national office with ana. as a staff nurse, i believe thta you are truly misguided in believing that staying affiliated with ana is in our best interest. ana is an elitest organizations, run primarily by nurse admininstrators, managers, aprns, nurse researches and nursing educators. ana is out of touch with what staff nurses want and need. their ideology and platform is that of management, our employers, not that of staff nurses. the uan afl-cio is claining great victory in a recent ohio strike, 3% increase in wages and doing away with a pension plan for all new hires. that is an atrocity, not a victory! ana's ideology is keeping staff nurses oppressed. staff nurses need to take control of hna and liberate themselves from the oppression of ana and our employers. it's time for independence! my understanding of cna's presence, is to help us win the fight for independence, not raid us and take us over. they only came when invited. they were invited! we have hundreds of thousands of dollars of legal fees that we must pay to the various attorneys that have been hired in this battle for independence form oppression. we will be more oppressed if we don't disaffiliate from ana because we woun't have that additional $350,000.00/year+ to get us out of debt. disaffiliation doesn't have to be forever. but, it does need to happen now! if you want to clain a victory of 3% wage increase next year and no more pension plan, then stay affiliated with ana. that's not what my co-workers want! that's not what i want! july 21st is indepence day for hawaii's nurses. i'm voting to end oppression!
