starting my CNA program next Tuesday!

  1. i've been a lurker here for quite sometime and finally gave in to posting!

i'm starting my CNA class june 23rd @ the columbus public schools adult education program (aka: ACE). i'm SUPER excited, nervous, anxious, etc. i am fortunate that my parents are covering the $600+ tuition, scrubs, physical, background check, etc. :heartbeat them! i am taking this class in order to continue on to the ACE LPN program and then; LPN-RN program --> RN-BSN program.

speaking of which, any good recs for LPN-RN programs in the central ohio area? i've heard *rumors* that the ACE lpn program has a bridge set up with chamberlain and hocking as well. any info on that?

i'm curious if there is anyone else on here that has taken the STNA class here and what the "uniform" consists of? i emailed the program coordinator to see about scrub color/style and was told to wait until after the first day of class. which, isn't a problem except i'm a plus-sized girlie and i'm afraid i'll have to order my scrubs online and won't get them in enough time :icon_roll .

SORRY, rambling and lots of questions!

Congrats! I'll be starting my CNA class on Monday! I'm really excited too! I have to wait until the first day of class to get info on uniform as well, but I did pick up some scrubs and I'm hoping they are acceptable. I won't have much time to do any shopping as our class is only two weeks long and the last four days are clinicals. So I just picked up things that were as basic as I could find in hopes they will be fine! I guess I can return them if I find out on the first day that we need something else.

Hello, Im not starting my classes until the 29th, but I am so excited. I know this step is going to be the beginning of a wonderful career path ahead! I got 2 sets of scrubs, they had to be teal. I ordered them online, and I ordered a large and they are so so so so very big. I think I am going to have to go out and buy another pair in a small. I am wondering if they really look all that funny on me, and maybe I could get away with wearing them. I tried to wash and dry a pair to see if they would shrink at all, and they didnt...lol I need to still get a pair of nursing shoes which ill prob. do this weekend. i got my bp cuff and stethoscope, and it was like getting a shiny red bike for xmas! Good luck on your classes, keep me posted on how its going!

hey guys! i start my CNA class on monday the 22nd.
this has been bothering me for the last week so i guess i should just ask...
has anyone ever heard of a CNA class that costs about $3000??
i paid my deposit but am worried about handing over the rest of it... is this worth it?

and what kind of shoes did u guys get?

Wow, $3000? I'm paying around $500 through the tech college. One of the big nursing homes in the same town does their own training, and they charge $525. (That's for MN)

I haven't picked up shoes yet, I was at the store today looking but just can't find any that seem comfortable enough!

WOW! i thought the $600 for my class was expensive! i think the best thing to do would be to check with your states dept of health on the program you are interested in. where i live (ohio) i was able to call and actually get a list of programs that were accredited or at least sanctioned in someway by the state. honestly, i think it depends on where you live how much the classes are.

if i were you i'd at least do some google research on your program or check the BBB. i've noticed lots of CNA programs popping up and i'm a bit skeptical about them. hence why i went with the program i'm starting

on the website, (www.pmcicareers.com) it says that it is authorized by the CA Dept. of Health Services for the conduction of nursing education...
urghhh but i cant help but feel like im getting ripped off!
im desperate to start though. it's a private vocational school so i guess it makes sense, right? i mean, it comes with the textbooks, scrubs, supplies (stethoscope and all that jazz)... i dont remember what else. all i know is that i only need to get a watch, scissors and shoes on my own.

but can someone make me feel better about this? haha, oh well. it'll be worth it in the end, i suppose...?

goodmorning. I am paying $998 for my class. I am in NY and it is a private school as well. It includes my books, but scrubs, stethoscope, bp cuff, and any other supplies I need to purchase myself. How long is the course for? $3000 does seem pretty steep to me, but I do understand you are anxious to begin and excited, I am too so I know where you are coming from. Are there any other schools in your area? I would just look into it more just to be on the safe side. Good luck and keep us posted!

I dont start my CNA toll July 27. Its a little ways away, but I am really excited. I know a lot of people who went thru the program, so I know where to get help if needed. I am pretty sure I will need red scrubs, but I wont find out till the first day either. RIGHT after I get done with my CNA classes, I have to move 3 hours away to attend school to get my LPN, which starts on Aug 24. I am freaking out cuz of the short time, but I hope all goes well. Ive already registered for my classes for my LPN, so I need to pass my CNA class....so much pressure haha!

I know what you mean about pressure! I have to pass the CNA class and test so I can put my application in for the LPN program, which has to be in by Sept. 1st. I also have two online classes right now, with proctored midterms the same days as my clinicals. It's going to be crazy.
