New from Florida with Questions

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Published

Hello all! I am about to graduate with my AS in MIBC and sadly am not really interested in it. The only reason I wanted to pursue it was because I have 2 little boys. One who is 2 1/2 with autism and a 4 month old. I wanted to be able to stay home and work essentially.

I really have always wanted to be a nurse and while I know I still can and it will take awhile I want to be a CMA first. I have been trying like mad to find place to take the class for CMA here in Central Florida (Orlando to be exact) and CANNOT find anything. I called the Red Cross and they don't have it here. I have e-mailed a few hospitals and am waiting for thier replies. I am really needing a late night class one or all weekend ones since I have my children all day. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

My other question was immunizations. In Florida, do you have to have your shots up to date? I don't have any of my records, my parents may but I doubt it. I just read that on here somewhere and was inquiring about that as well. Thanks in advace to any advice/responses!

I'm sorry if this is asked all the time, I don't want to annoy! I would just appreciate any direction, pretty please :):D:D

Specializes in ICU, ER, Hemodialysis.

My guess is that you will need your immunization record. The good part is your school that you graduated high school from should have your records on file, or at least the health dept. I would suggest you contact your school. That's what I did!!

I'm not sure about classes in central florida. I wish you lots of luck.

Regards,

Jay

In the state of FL, you don't have to take a class to be able to sit for the CNA exam- you can just challenge the exam. I wouldn't recommend going that route, though. There is a training center here in Orlando that offers day, afternoon, night, and weekend classes. Here is a link to the site http://www.c-n-a.com/

I am going to take the night class starting July 14. Good luck to you!

I know about challenging the exam, but I would be too nervous and unprepared to do that. I have all of the training videos thanks to this site, but nothing is really like hands on experience. Thanks for the link though! Hopefully this will be what I am looking for!

Question for you, you don't have to answer if it is too personal, but how much did you pay for this class from this site? I am really looking into this one because it is in my area, or in Jacksonville where I have help with my kids for the weekend classes. Thanks again.

Hi, I hope you found some info on where to take nite or wknd classes. I am currently taking classes (PCA) at DBCC which is now DBS college. There is no campus in Orlando, but 1 in New Smyrna, Deland, Palm Coast and Daytona. There will be a fall class, maybe in the evening. I don't know if you are eligible, but through community colleges you can join one of those "Fresh Start" programs so you can possibly have your children in daycare. Or through CCRN (Childcare resource network) for them. I know one of your children is autistic.

Good Luck to you:up:

Thanks, I will look it up online. Deland isn't too far, so that may be an option.

It is $479 for the course and includes coursework, study guide, uniform, and exam. Not too bad if you ask me!

Oh the exam is incuded? That isn't bad at all than. Thank you!
