Must say Good-bye to.....

A pair of much loved work shoes. :(

I have worked at my job for over two years, and our dress code is either kaki or black pants. Well I usually wear my tennis shoes if I have my kakis on, but when I wear by blacks I had found these wonderful black working shoes from Dr. Scholl's Just a basic pair of black slip ons that have a velcro buckle on them. These shoes I swear have been the most comfy pair of shoes I have ever warn. I love them, but saddly they have been getting way to out of shape. They are so bad there are holes that are starting to rip open from the rubber souls where I can get stones stuck in the bottom of my shoe now.

I hate looking for shoes, and fear I will not find the same nice pair of shoes that will not hurt my feet by the end of the day. It is something special when I find a shoe that won't hurt my toes. My toes are Very sensitive, and they have problems of not laying flat, so the tops of my toes are always in pain in many types of shoes. even tennis shoes. I will be looking for Dr. Scholls again, but I don't think that this type of black shoe will be easy to find everywhere, and being this is a 2 year old shoe they probably do not even make this one anymore. (sigh)

So has anyone else had to say good-bye to a beloved pair of shoes. Can anyone suggest a good brand for those of us that have problems with their feet if I can't find a dr scholls I like?

Sounds like you have hammer toes. Check out New Balance -- they make some black shoes, and have way more support than Dr. Scholl's.

Thank you Ruby, and I believe you are right about my toes. When I was young I had braces on my legs because I had intoeing. I think that at a point the shoes that were on my braces were too small for me and my mom did not realize it. I've had them forever! Over the years the bumps on top of my toes seem to get a little better. Not as big and red. But they can definetly still cause me issues

I discovered I fit into a boys' size 7, so I took a cue from my son who has begged for Merrill's the last 2 school years and got my own. $55, not as restrictive on my toes as my nurse mates were, leather tops, so spills won't be absorbed, and overall a good shoe. And if it doesn't last a year, I'm fine with it because they're half the price of typical nursing shoes. (I absolutely can't stand the feel of clog-style shoes.)

Thanks all for your replies. I actually went to the mall tonight and got a pair of Merrill's. They are a nice black leather shoe and was really surpised at how comfortable they were. Yes and as ixchel stated they are not absorbant so that will be a plus. The place I got them from also had a tennis shoe that they had me try on and I loved it. They were a light weight shoe and as well very comfortable and actually pretty resonably price at around 56.00 I believe. They were Saucony. So anyone looking for a nice pair of tennis shoes I think they would be a good one to try out.

Many years ago I found a cheap pair (less than $20) of white slip-ons in the shoe department of Mervyn's. Us nurses discussed these shoes at the nurses station and others also tried them out and liked them. I was able to get a second pair, but alas, not a third, because Mervyn's stopped carrying that shoe and never brought in a good substitute. Since then, Mervyn's has gone out of business. Sorry to say, I have never been able to find another pair of shoes, at any price, that measured up to that slip-on from Mervyn's, so I know how disappointed you must be.

A couple years ago, I bought a pair of Puma running shoes that were the best shoes I'd ever worn. They were like walking on memory foam. Alas, they finally bit the dust last fall after I changed jobs. Now I have a pair of Ryka cross trainers and I fear they are about to die, too. This time, though, I might look into Red Wings.
