Ma with no job leads need advice please help

I have been a MA since 2008,and i have not been able to find employment. I am soo discouraged because i have spent over 10k and i,,have,no job. I did my externship at a local hospital and they loved me but they couldnot hire me cause they didnot have any open positions at The time. I soo confused on which way to turn. I gave up on trying to find a job. its just been soo hard cause everyone wants expérience. Im located in The philly area so if anyone has any type Of leads or advice please let me kno. im considering taking refresher courses, thats what my school is recommending

Not sure if this helps, but I know someone who got a job as a medical receptionist at a major health system by first doing environmental services. It's easier to get hired at something like that first and then getting hired internally.

I would recommend applying for any healthcare related job, even if its EVS (environmental services). See this article.

My reasoning is that this gives you "experience within a healthcare setting." With no experience, you aren't all that appealing to potential employers (No experience = longer orientation and extra training = more expensive).

Also, many find it easier to get a job as an internal transfer than as an external applicant. I know I did. There is no way I would have gotten my position as an ER Tech if I hadn't transferred into it. I just meet the bare minimum requirements for the job, but suffering through a job (sitter) that I didn't really like paid off for me.

I also know people with the attitude "I didn't go to school to work as a _____." Well, I say don't think of it as "working under your education" but as "improving your resume."

Environmental services = the "new" PC term for housekeeping.

In Philly, the job market for MAs is not so good, unfortunately...With the push for BSNs in the hospitals, ADNs having to take positions when LPNs were, to LPNs and RNs starting to be preferred to be a part of clinic settings (one hospital is moving towards nurses being support staff in clinics), it is becoming difficult for MAs, but not impossible. Check on Craigslist for opportunities, indeed.com. Also look into home healthcare as well...that can be a start, as well as if you had phlebotomy as a class, take your test in phlebotomy, and get your certification in that to get your foot in the door at a hospital, nursing home, or health department.

If you desire to return to school for nursing, look into your options...Like I stated before, LPNs, ADNs, and BSNs are facing delays in starting their careers, but when it comes down to choices, BSNs are having the option in being the priority for MOST jobs, and have the flexibility in getting into advanced roles, such as research and case management.

Keep looking...this market in our area is verrry sluggish. Good Luck!!!

Yeah environmental services does mean housekeeping or janitorial, but it does have it's good points. First of all, in my area they make more than CNAs do. Secondly, they don't do direct patient care and have a lot of tools to keep their faces out of the mess. I've watched them. It doesn't look too bad. I even did it one day down in the OR. Just an option to get your foot in the door until a job opens up. Get part of the same system maybe union and some benefits.

I had tried different ways to get into The medical field but it just seems impossible. Every where you turn you need some type Of experience. Omgosh! What state are you in? Do not get depressed. Have you thought about moveing to another state or city.. I live here in houston tx and the jobs are booming! Schools as well.
