Cost of CNA class

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Published

Hi all, relatively new here... just thought I'd get a general consesus as to how much everyone is paying for their CNA classes (or have paid). I'm hoping this isn't too forward of a question, I'm just trying to figure something out.

The class I've enrolled in is a 6.5 month long course, 2 of which are clinicals. Classes are every week day, for 4 hours each day. Clincals are 5 days a week for 7 hours a day.

The cost of my course is $5900.00.... thats more then the community colleges in my area. I was wondering, if this was standard across the board, or how the prices are.

Anyway, I again hope that wasn't too forward and hope to hear from you!

Specializes in LTC.

So have we established that this is a CNA class, not a medical assisting program?

I'm fairly certain it is... but all I have to go on is the course outline they provided on their website. http://www.healthtrainingcentre.com/id1.html

We're going to be trained on Assisting with Meds, Applying cold/hot treatments, Cooking if working in their home, We go through an Anatomy class, common diseases and conditions, wound care......

I'm not entirely sure what the scope of a CNA is. I know with this course there are the potential for jobs that include home care... So I'm assuming they need someone who knows basic nutrition and such, which the course teaches.

But like I said, I don't really know the whole scope of either a MA or a CSN.

A CNA doesn't do meds, treatments, or wound care.

I dunno.. I guess I'll have to wait and see. It seems that the differences between Canada and the US as far as job descriptions are quite different.

Specializes in (Hopefully one day..) neuro/urology ^.^.

I'm taking my CNA course this summer. It's only costing 330$ for the class, plus the cost of scrubs, the text book, and the state test. So, I'm figuring around low-400.

Totally worth it, though!

The CNA scope of practice probably varies a great deal when comparing Canada to the US. So in turn they may very well be able to do wound changes, pass meds, etc.

I'm excited all the same... happy for the chance to get into the medical field. The cost is huge, but ah well... :D.

I'm really really excited and counting down the days. I'm just waiting to see how much Student loan is willing to cover and if I need to get sponsorships.

I don't think we'll be passing meds per say, more like giving suppositories and enemas. But still, all the same... happy! Wound care is something that really excites me. I've always been the wound tending person in the family, so... hopefully it'll be something I'm good at.

I'm really really interested in the differences between Canadian CNA's and American CNA's, or just Canadian vs American nurses. Not as a competition, I just really get interested in hearing about and seeing cultural differences.

i know what you mean. i'm taking this course through the local branch of the canadian red cross. just waiting to hear back from student loans, hopefully soon.

i just got hired by the canadian red cross to work in home care as a psw. i start school tomarrow at a local college to get my psw degree...which the red cross is paying for!!! plus they are paying me while i attend school!!!:) i will be working as soon as november...i can hardly wait! i plan on working with red cross while i attend nursing school this fall.

is working for the red cross in your area an option...maybe your schooling would be paid for too?!

anyway...good luck to you

My classes were 3 weeks long, and it cost me $575.

Specializes in Substance Abuse, Mental Health.

I'm in NC. At the community college, the CNA course is like 3-4 months in length and is about $100, not including the textbook. The class was full when I wanted it, so I took it through a home health agency. It was $349 w/ book included and it was 4 weeks, 2 classroom and 2 clinical portion.

My CNA course cost was about 500 I believe, but I didnt pay for it.

I worked in the kitchen at the time at a LTC facility and they offer CNA classes and actually pay for them, along with paying you 8.50 an hour just to take them.

The course was 2 weeks long and I got paid while being in class, I couldn't really ask for anything better!

mine was 170 or 180.. O_o; but not including books..

cna 2 class i'm going to start next month was 180, tues-thurs, sept 1-dec 8, oh and 8am-12 noon..

should have took it with other college though.. theirs was only 2 month long :(
