I had a client complain I was going to fast. I am barely getting done in time so I am moving as fast as I can. All I did was push her but over to get brief under her. I am at loss as to what to do.

How do you deal with difficult people?

Ignore it.......... just do your job correctly and move out...........You will drive your self crazy if you listen to everything they say

Thats not even that bad of a complaint. At all.

It's kind of funny, isn't it - half of them complain that you go too slow, and then the other half are mad that you're rushing. I agree with the above poster - just do what you have to do. If they complain, apologize. I would just say something like, "I'm sorry, I'm just trying to finish as quick as I can so I can stop bothering you!" or "I'm sorry, I'm going as fast as I can. I just want to make sure you're clean/comfortable/etc".

That's not even that bad of a complaint. At all.

Forgot to finish she also said, "I was making her very nervous and to never come back to her room." Guess I will be avoiding her for a while. Told her I was sorry but it is 11:00, which is the time I am suppose to leave. Then said, I would continue going slower.

I think what really disturbed her is that I pushed her butt up to get a brief under her.

I make an effort to smile, speak at a slightly slower pace and say, "Im sorry about that. Sometimes I do rush a bit, thank you for pointing it out to me. Is there anything else I can do for you while I am here?"

Then I revert back to my previous pace and get to work.

How else do you get a brief under a butt without pushing it up?? Sheesh!!! There's a lady I used to put to bed on the evening shift I used to work at this LTC facility, she was just a complainer. Even if you did everything exactly right she'd act all grumpy and still try to find something to complain about. If I didn't pull her briefs up good enough after helping her off the toilet, she'd grumble: "hey this doesn't feel right!!' .....so, I'd reach around her large middle and yank and pull and re-adjust them.....then I'd say 'does that feel better?' ......she'd get an even grumpier look on her face and say.....'yeah...I guess...' She just wasn't happy unless she wasn't happy. :uhoh3:

That reminds of a client I have on the rehab side of the facility. I will keep that in mind next time I have her. For last she kept saying I didn't have the call light and bed remote in the right place. I got so angry I started crying in an empty room.

I think in the future I am going to pull the heavy people towards me. Then I can make certain that I don't push their face in uncomfortable position. Also will tell them what I am going to do before I do it.

today we had a resident who did not have her glasses, bra on ant TED hose on when her daughter visited. This was just a training day in the Alzheimer's unit for me i don't usually work there. She had a CNA come in point these things out and then point out the trash bag by the bed that we had just put her briefs in and our gloves a second ago and we were taking to the trash outside the doors. She put in a complaint against (?) for all these things. I did feel bad but I guess this happens a lot with the rush of things. That place was fun and like your place had too little CNA's, pretty much a fast pace mad house.

I am an inherent people-pleaser. Work (and LIFE) got so much easier for me when I stopped trying to make every patient 100% happy, 100% of the time. People will complain whether you do things the right way or the wrong way, that's just the way it is. Sometimes I acknowledge complaints, but sometimes the best thing to say when people grumble is NOTHING at all.
