Hello everyone and Happy New year;

I understand most states doesn't accept a method 3 license;my question today is, if I was to move to another state, will I have the opportunity to sit to take that state LVN exam? If no one knows what a method three license is, I will explain: I was given the opportunity to challenge the LVN boards due to my long history as a CNA (over 27 years) throughout the hospital. This opportunity is only given in the state of California and I have been working as a LVN for over 5 years, now that I want to move back to the South (Texas), my licence won't be transferred. The reason behind this is, you have to graduate from a accredited school, which in my case I hadn't. I had taken the 54 hr. Pharmacology, LVN refresher course and studied the NCLEX-PN and sat for the exam, passed. Is there another way I can go about getting my license transferred without problems down the road? Thank you all for your responses

No. CABVNPT is very specific that this is a license only valid in CA and not accepted for endorsement to any other state. All other states require you to complete/graduate from nursing school. Some states will accept specific recent military corpsman training as equivalent to completing a vocational/practical nursing program.

If you wish to work in any state other than California, you will need to have graduated from an accredited school of practical / vocational nursing.

You will not be eligible to take NCLEX-PN for another state's board of nursing unless you meet the licensing requirements of that state. And all states (except CA) require satisfactory completion of a nursing program prior to licensing.

In other states, no schooling = no licensure

Stay in california why move anywhere else

Dear tlklvn13,

I applaud you for doing the Method 3 and working for 5 years that's great!! I'm interested in doing the program, I've taken an online pharmacology class already, I just need to know where to do the refresher courses and so forth. Also for encourage you, have you thought about continuing from the LVN-to RN? I heard that's what many people have been doing while working with their method 3 licenses. I can understand how u may feel having ben able to get that experience while in the nursing field.

Unless your method 3 was from equivalent coursework most bridge programs won't consider a nurse who did not complete & graduate from a vocational nursing program. The only method 3 LVNs I've known challenged not by experience but equivalent coursework (whether partial completion of an RN program or qualified military medic) weres subsequently accepted into LVN to RN bridge programs. (Not counting the $100,000+ private programs that are more concerned with quantity of students than quality then have additional requirements to receive the diploma and notice of successful completion to BRN)

Hi! Did you do the method 3 challenge? If so, how is it? Did you pass?
