Hello, I'm new here. But I am a CNA and in the middle of starting my application to challenge the California state board Lvn, through method 3. Has anyone done this? I need some help. Any and all advice is appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Hi Brenda. I never knew this was possible. If so, do we just become lvn/lpn within california? I am a CNA and willl start the nursing program next month on aug 12.

Yes, and many states will not allow you to endorse a license obtained through this method. I would suggest that if you have any possibility of relocating out of CA you research the requirements of multiple states - many will flat out require completion of a practical nursing program to be granted a practical nursing license by endorsement.

Quote Please note that achieving licensure via the equivalency method may limit the licensee's ability to be hired as a licensed vocational nurse or psychiatric technician. No other state accepts licensees who have been licensed via this method. In addition to licensure, some health care facilities within California require that their potential employees be graduates of approved nursing or psychiatric technician programs. Such facilities will not hire licensees who have achieved licensure via the equivalency method. If you have questions about licensure in another state, please contact that state's board of nursing. If you have questions about the hiring practice of a particular health care facility in California, please contact that facility.

California is the outlier that allows you to get a license by using the do pass go, go directly to license method. At least they are open about warning potential candidates that the license will not be recognized by other states and possibly not recognized by employers within the state. Should you choose to try this method of becoming licensed, in my opinion you should still complete the required education for that license, especially if you think you might ever move or advance your career.

Hello everyone!
I wanted to share some insight into the Method 3 process, which I chose to pursue on my journey to becoming a Registered Nurse (RN). While this is a fast-paced route, having all your experience and paperwork in order is incredibly rewarding.
The Method 3 pathway allowed me to use my experience and skills to challenge the exam, bypassing the traditional program route. This made my transition to becoming an RN much quicker. I had no issues transferring my license, as the process is identical to those who complete a formal program. It's all based on examination—your skills and knowledge matter.
This can be a fantastic option for anyone with the right background to fast-track your career. Ensure you have your documentation and experience in line, and you'll be on your way!
Best wishes on your journey. Nina M. Stevenson, RN

I am currently in the process of doing this as well. I attached an example of how one of the forms should be filled out by your employers. Also I attached a snippet of my deficiency letter.
