CNA job advice (couldn't pick right forum)

How hard is it to get a job as a CNA with no experience?

Like right after I pass my exam and get certified?

All the job postings I'm seeing are for jobs with at least a year of experience.

If it helps, I live in Tampa, Florida.

What kind of jobs are you looking at. Are you only looking at hospital jobs? I know many nurses have to deal with this but I have not heard many places needing a years experiance before working for them as a CNA

There are many places I know that will give any CNA a chance at working without a years experience. Many LTCs are always looking for help. There is also retirement homes, Rehab, Home Care, Homes for the disabled, Homes and Hospitals for VETS. All I would think would be happy to have you. Keep looking I'm sure something will pop up.

You may need to start looking at LTC first. Most hospitals won't hire brand new aides without experience, but LTC facilities generally do (because they need all the help they can get!).

Apply anyway. It won't cost you anything but a little time...and you just never know!

~but yeah, generally hospitals want at least 6 month LTC experience where as LTC facilities and home care agencies are always looking for help...unless you are in a place where there isn't much of a demand....and I would think Florida is not one of them ....???

Good luck!

Hospitals typically want 6months to a year of experience. Other facilities will frequently hire with no experience. I was hired for my first CNA job with no experience and a pending license less than 2 weeks after I started looking for work.

I think CNA positions around the country are fairly short staffed. However, it will be much easier to get a position in a skilled nursing facility (nursing home) or in the home care field than in a hospital without experience. Also nursing facilities area great way to gain experience because you have the opportunity to work with various people and needs. Plus, being new you can ask questions and get help as you learn. Where as in home care you are on your own.
