I work at small newborn level 2b nursery. I am new to this area and I am needing a performance improvement project. I am having a hard time with coming up with a project. I was originally thinking something about safe sleep but not sure what to do or maybe vitamin k education for nursing staff.... any ideas would bexpect greatly appreciated.
Thanks

My facility has a level III NICU, and while I haver never worked there as a nurse I did float there as a float tech. One big topic for education was infection control/prevention among staff, float staff, and parents/family.
I would also try looking at any previous quality issues that your unit scored lower on or you could make up a list of things done in the NICU that aren't done often and have your peers score each section on level of comfort ranging from not very comfortable to very comfortable, etc and narrow down a topic to focus on. Good luck!

Look at your unit's quality data and design something to help your scores improve. Also, talk to your unit's leadership to see which quality improvements they would like to see. Help them solve the unit's problems and you will earn brownie points. By picking a project that they value, you'll also get more help and support from them.
Staff and students coming from out of nowhere to pick projects that aren't important to the leadership can be a real nuisance. They often cause more of a burden than they are worth.
