Hello everyone,

I just had my interview for Cleveland State University’s ABSN program. I am currently residing in California. I am wondering what you think about Cleveland State University’s program, if you know anything about it. Is it worth it to go out of state when I could potentially get into a school in California?

How do you make a decision on a school? Do you basically just look at graduation rate and NCLEX pass rate?! What else should weigh in on my decision?

Thanks 🙂

I went through CSU's ABSN program. I thought it was good and it was affordable. I think everyone but 1 person passed the NCLEX on the first try.

As for if you should go or stay in CA it depends. Are you planning on moving and working out of state? If not why not just stay in CA and go to a school there?

I think you should look at cost, the university (is it reputable? etc), pass and graduation rates. Keep in mind it doesn't matter where the BSN is from (unless its from a sketchy for profit school).

Thank you so much for your advice. I just applied and am waiting to hear back from them. I heard that it’s a pretty good program. I understand that it doesn’t really matter where you get your bachelors of nursing, however I would love a great engaging program. And I would love to be in a good area.

My boyfriend is going to case Western for medical school, so I might move there due to that if I get into the program. However we also decided that it might be great if I get into a direct masters program for nursing instead of an accelerated bachelors program. I am still deciding on this. Of course I need to wait until I get any acceptance to be able to make the decision :-). Thank you for your advice I really appreciate your thorough reply.

hey! i just got my acceptance letter to the CSU ABSN program. Case Western is like, in the top 3 nursing schools but it's astronomically more expensive than CSU. Plus, they both do rotations at Cleveland Clinic, so you still get that really great boost of prestige on your resume having done clinicals there.

(my boyfriend is in the physics department at Case, if y'all do end up moving here we should find a duplex lol)

I just called in and it's 614.75 per unit (non resident) and that's about 7,377 per semester. I am so confused because this ends up being sooo much cheaper than California schools.... I may just have to take up this offer and go to Cleveland State's ABSN program!! The school I was looking at here is total $45k and CSU ABSN ends up being around $30k.... that's a huge difference I almost don't believe it.

oh riiight i had done the math for an ohio resident, i've been living here for 2yrs. but yeah it's super affordable + cleveland is a really cheap city to live in (you can find a place to rent for like $700). i think there are some more fees than just tuition but not super super much.
