Hello, I was wondering if clerical volunteer work at the hospital can help me get to know what others nurses would do.
I basically have to call the patients to let them know they have an appointment. Sometime, I might to filing and stuff. However, I won't be doing any clinical assistance (maybe I can shadow them later)
Any thoughts?

My mom did this, and it was her introduction to nursing. I know she learned a lot just being able to observe how everything works.
If you have the opportunity, I'd say go for it! :)

Even if you don't get that much clinical experience now you will get to know how the floor is run. And it will still get your foot in the door when you eventually have to apply for a job there. I volunteer in the Burn unit at my nearest hospital and I plan on doing that through my whole educational experience so that I can make my own schedule while learning how things work and networking.

Volunteering at a hospital will definitely help you get your feet wet. I'm currently volunteering at Children's hospital as a child life volunteer, and you learn a lot just from seeing how the floor works.

I go sit with the children to allow their parents/caretaker breaks, bring them toys/crafts, play with them, or take them to the playroom if their able. I also clean toys and the playroom. While doing all this you interact with the nurses and see how they work. I love it!
