Has anyone clepped sociology??? it is my only general ed class I need and would love some insight

thanks,

jan

Yup I CLEP'd it. It was cheap, easy to sign up for, and it was given via computer at my local community college. That's the good news. The bad news is that it was REALLY HARD! I for sure did not study enough for it. I read over the recommended reading stuff, and skimmed over a few sociology themed websites. That was very stupid of me. I did PASS it (it's pass/fail only) but just barely. I think you need about 55% to pass and I think I got like 58!

Please study all the well know theorists (Comte, Marx, Durkheim, Weber, etc), their various theory's and ideas. Learn about how environment shapes a person, social structure, social classes, and deviance in society. Read everything sociology related you can get your hands on. Oh yeah, don't forget to KNOW which particular theory is credited to which particular theorist. For instance...Karl Marx = Class struggle, Emile Durkheim = Structural Functionalism...etc... Don't forget to know the basic history of the study of sociology and where it began.

Ugh, I did NOT like this one! It felt like just a bunch of random opinions about community all mushed together and turned into a school lesson. All the ideas are just THEORY's, nothing is FACT. I like FACTS, they are much easier to memorize!

Good luck grasshopper, good luck...

I am using the REA sociology book, the peterson's practice tests, and the UC Berkeley podcast for this one. Everyone i've spoken to said it doesn't take long to prepare for and it's easy. I am going to just listen to the lectures and not take notes while I do my walks with the baby and then skim the chapters I seemed to get a lot of the practice test questions wrong for. Using the REA book with no study I am getting a passing score.

thanks guys...... I love this support system.

I took the CLEP test for this.

If you have the right material, you can study for it in a a couple of weeks and pass, like I did. I used http://www.instantcert.com/ for most of my studying and the REA study guide to supplement. With instantcert, you study their flash cards. It in the most like the CLEP exam since it's a bunch of questions, of all the books, etc. Read it all. Don't get discouraged the first time you go through the questions - you don't know that stuff, that's the whole point. You don't know it yet but you will. It's about $20 for a month (you can look for coupon codes and save about $5).

It doesn't take long to study for it.

I clepped Sociology and got a B using Chancellors study guide. I think any of those studyguides will do. I don't remember the test itself but remember thinking it wasn't as bad I thought it would be. Good Luck!!!
