Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston Fall 2020

Published

Hey everyone! I couldn't find a forum for this application cycle, so I thought I'd go ahead and start one. How is everyone preparing for the HESI? Or if you've taken it already feel free to share your stats if you're comfortable with that. Also, anybody plan on working while in the program, I would love to see y'alls opinions on that. ☺️

Hello! I have not taken HESI yet. I do plan on working while in the program tho. I was in a pretty hard undergrad program and did fine while working; hopefully, it will be the same once I start the pacesetter program (if I get accepted)

I wanted to ask if anyone knew about which chemistry classes they take into account for Nursing/Science GPA calculation? I have a C in Chem 2 that I took about 3 years ago, but then I took Ochem 1, Ochem 2 and Medical Biochemistry and got A's in all of them. Hopefully they can use one of those! Lol

Hey!! I'm currently preparing for the hesi. Plan on taking it in February. Not really interested in working while in school, did it in college, and hated it lol???

Quick question!: For those who registered through Elsevier to take the Hesi at a testing center. Which hesi exam did you guys choose??: Admission Assessment with Grammar, Admission Assessment with Critical thinking or just Admissions Assessment? Also since UTHEALTH doesn't require Biology, Physics, or Chemistry...did you study for it? And how does avoiding these sections work when taking the exam?

All advice is appreciated!

Hello! I've applied to UTHealth Fall 2020 as well!

My stats are: 3.65 Science GPA, 3.5 Overall GPA, 93.2% HESI

I'm super nervous due to my GPA (Statistics was NOT my forte).

As for the HESI, it was easier than I imagined. I made a 100% on my A&P section! I keep looking all over forums to see what people who were accepted had. At my school, for the HESI, we signed in for the exam and we were able to take each section we wanted and were able to skip the sections we didn't need!

As an update to my previous post, I called the office and they told me that they take the highest attempt in any of the pre-reqs, incluiding chem courses, so I’ll be getting the A on the chem pre-req! Just as an FYI if anyone is in a similar position (they will be taking my A in biochemistry instead of my B in Chem 1).

My stats are:

Overall: 3.61, Science: 3.68, HESI: TBD

Very strong upward trend, with a 3.9 Cumulative and Science gpa’s in my last 60 hours. Also, I believe I kinda have a good resume, so I hope they are truly holistic and take it into account lol.

Just to avoid scaring anybody out:

You DO NOT need to take organic chem or biochemistry courses to apply; I have those credits because I was a former pre-med student, but switched to pre-ursing! That is why I have those upper division courses.

Yes! I have a good resume & statement as well so I hope they do actually take it into account. That'll be my pushing factor. Good Luck!!

Hello! I've started my application already, have any of you started the process as well? The status for my Hesi and transcripts say initiated, does anyone know what that means? ?

Hi y'all, last minute applicant here ? I applied to UT health San Antonio but I decided to apply here too. I took the TEAS for ut health San Antonio but I realized that Cizik uses the HESI. What study book did y'all use?? And do y'all have any tips??

I'm also need to take the TEASV. What study materials do you recommend?

Hey y'all! I took my HESI back in November; I took Math, Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary and General Knowledge, Grammar, and Anatomy and Physiology (also the critical thinking for a different school). I made a 95% total. If you are studying for both the TEAS and HESI, I would recommend focusing more on the TEAS; I think the TEAS is a little harder and has basically the same sections. So, I suggest 60% of your focus on TEAS and 40% on HESI. I really liked the Princeton Review Cracking the Nursing School Entrance Exam book. If you're just studying the HESI, I would get a Kaplan book and avoid buying those overpriced flash cards! They're nice but not necessarily better than quizlet.

Hi! Whenever y'all talk about y'alls personal statements/resume, where do y'all submit those? I'm working on my app right now
