Hello everyone, I'm attending Florence Darlington Technical in SC, & was chosen as an alternate for their LPN program, meaning if a vacancy opens Ill be in this fall. Has anyone gone through this? & was just curious if people losing their slot was as common as they say... thanks!

Illness, pregnancy, finances, legal/administrative circumstances all take their tolls on students. It's quite common for not every enrollee to graduate, were it comes in for your is if a slot becomes available early enough in the program for you to start.

In my nursing program 2 years ago they accepted 28 students - they used 17 people from the alternate list - sometimes people back out at the last minute . . . it definitely happens! It would also be nice to know what slot you were in on the alternate list . . . Top 5? Top 10?
They wouldn't let me know what number we were on the list (which sucks) they just said that If a spot opens we will be called

Plenty of people do. The nursing school I attended has five campuses. I got Wait listed on the campus of my choice (mainly because of some information that was not relayed to me until after I ultimately got in). About two days later I got a call asking if I'd want to attend one of the other campuses. I did because I didn't care and later transfered to the campus I wanted after spending a semester in the less than desirable location.

The dean of nursing at my school told us that out of 40 students selected, she always has at least one back out.

One of my BFFs in LPN school was initially an alternate. Good luck
