Children's Hospital Studetn Nurse Associate

Specializes in Pediatrics.

Hello everyone. I am just finishing up my first year at WCCCD nursing program. I interviewed for 2 jobs, one at children's hospital as a student nurse associate and one at Wyandotte as a nurse extern. I got offered both jobs (after freaking out and having to wait a month to find out)

I ended up taking the job at Children's. I think I was drawn in for some reason. Also the scheduling there seems to be more flexible (and I'm getting married this summer so I need flexibility.) Also it pays a little more.

Is it weird that I was also a little nervous to actually be an "extern", because apparently at Wyandotte, they get their own patient load and everything, which I really don't feel ready for.

So has anyone ever worked at Children's or any hospital in the DMC? Anyone have any pointers? I am a little nervous, because I have never worked in a hospital or anything, just my clinicals so far is my only experience.

I go for my pre hire physical/paperwork next week. Seems like it's going to be a lot of stuff. I have to bring so many things.

Ok...done babbling now...but I'm EXCITED!

Hi I work at Children's hospital as a Patient Care Associate not much difference from a Student Nurse Associate. What floor did you get hired on. I been there for 5 years. If you have any questions just let me know and I can try and help you the best way I can. Good Luck!

I worked at Children's Hospital for over 7 years as a PCA. The student nurses do the same thing on the unit I worked on as the PCAs. I left Children's because I wanted to do more to transition me into the role of RN. But if you did not have any hospital experience, CHM would be a good place to start.

I accepted Extern position at HFH Wyandotte for the same reason you turned it down, lol. FUNNY!!:bugeyes: I wanted and needed more autonomy to help me with the transition.

Best wishes,

Virginia
