Cheratussin Syrup in Babies?

Published

Hi-

I'm not asking for medical advice, I just want to know if its common for Cheratussin AC syrup in babies less than 1 year old? I'm particularly concerned about the codeine in it. :uhoh21:The pediatrician hopefully wouldn't prescribe it if it wasn't safe, but can anyone help me put my anxieties to rest?

It sure seems like you ARE asking for medical advice.

When giving any medications to babies, it's important to follow the physician's instructions as to dosing very carefully. Most drugs are safe for infants if the dosing limits are followed. Codeine has been implicated in adverse effects in children under 2 and should only be given in consultation with a physician. A graduated oral syringe should be used for administration, with great care taken when drawing up the dose and not administering more doses than recommended in 24 hours. Now having said that, you need to call your doctor again and discuss your concerns. We at allnurses.com do not have the legal authority to provide medical advice.
