CHEMISTRY: Need I say more ;-/

Published

Has anyone taken chem yet? I have never even had it in HS. I only had a little in Bio. I am almost more nervous over this than AnP I. At least I have an interest in AnP I.

yes, i've taken reg chem and organic. the school im currentlhy enrolled in for pre-reqs required organic, but be aware some dont. some school dont even require chem. its not really that bad, the labs are fun though. ap i & ii and micro werent as hard as i thought either. its just the anticipation, if you are really focused on becoming a nurse you will stick it out. good luck!

my ns only required that i take chem 1. i had no previous experience with chemistry either in high school. chemistry is like another math class with the table of elements mixed in . if you survived algebra 1, you'll done fine. the labs are neat. you will need to study everyday, as each concept builds upon another.

I only have to take Chem 101 and we only need a General Algebra class for NE. Luckily, I didn't need to take college algebra. The algebra that I took is more like HS algebra. I got an A- hoping that the math I recieved will be enough.

If you are nervous about experiencing Chem for the first time, I would recommend trying to get a referral from friends or student peers for a dedicated and supportive professor (Note: This does not equate to an easy professor.) Look for a professor that offers generous office hours and makes themselves available for any questions. I would even go so far as to looking into another school (e.g. community college) if there aren't any favorable options as your school.

The quality of my professor made my Chem experience very motivating and I came out of the course actually enjoying it and wanting to take more. I was quite nervous going in, as it had been ten years since I had taken basic Chem in high school. You'd be surprised how good you feel when you succeed in a course you were originally frightened of!

Good luck! ;)

I too am taking chem for the first time. I am nervous also. I went on the web and found some intro to chem classes and started to at least look over what to expect. I'm hoping that will help a little.

I agree w/ you about the instructor. I am going to a community college as I am a wife/mother. Time is limited :o. With that said, I have to accept the classes that work around my family schedule as well. I worked w/ a guidance counselor when enrolling and she understands my fear and hopefully put me w/ someone great. But YES, I do agree that the teacher makes all the difference. %100. Thank you for your imput and support.

I have taken it already...if you just stay focused and ask questions when you don't understand something (and hopefully have a teacher that is willing to answer any questions you may have), you should be fine. In my opinion, the teacher you have makes ALL the difference in the world! Best of luck to you in the class!

I, too, agree 100%!!! I did not and still do not enjoy the subject. The math part is fine for me, but I do not like worrying about all those darned electrons!!

Anyway, I had the best chemistry prof. He was not easy, but his class was so much fun I actually looked forward to it! Ask around for recommendations or try RateMyProfessor.com. It is not so bad with a good instructor. Really!!

I took chem last semester and I am retaking it online this semester to turn my B into an A. It really wasn't that bad. We had a issue with the professor and were broken up and put in different classes mid semester or I think I would have had an A. As someone said above if you can do algebra you will be fine.Just don't miss classes because chemistry builds on itself so if you miss one class the next class you will be lost.

I didnt like chem. I did fine in chem 102 but when I had to take organic chem, I didnt do to well. to me its built a lot on trying to figure out exceptions. I mean most students already go into chem hoping for a C. I mean what does that tell you? If you really need this class I say stay and try to stick it out and if you can buy a help book instead of the recommended chem book that would probably work better. usually the text makes no sense. but that is my opinion. atleast get a help book though.

It depends if you like algebra or not. I got a B in algebra with a lot of hard work. I took Chem over the summer, 5 weeks, BIG mistake. I almost didn't make it. I got a C. My first one since I started college. Bummer! And, 9 hours of lab every week, it just about killed me and a terrible professor as well, if I asked a question in class, he totally ignored me! It was terrible! Pam
