Chem and Anatomy together?

Published

What do you think of taking Chemistry and Anatomy in the same semester? Those are the only two classes that I am registered for this fall, except a one-credit Nursing History course that is required the first semester. People suggest NOT taking two sciences together, so I am concerned. But you see, most of the "easier" classes transferred over due to my bachelor's degree that I got 8 years ago. So now, it seems all I have are science classes, plus one psychology and one fine arts. (I am combining the psych class with my Physiology and Finite Math class for the Spring '07 semester. And I am combining the fine arts with my Microbiology for next summer. Then, all I have left are Nursing classes).

So, I really basically have no choice but to combine Chem and Anatomy this fall ... I am concerned, though, because I am the mother of two young sons (ages 3 and 1). I have a very supportive husband and mother, so that is encouraging. But I just hope Chem & Anatomy together won't run me over like a mack truck! :) Any advice?

Thanks!

i took chem and a&p 1 together, and then microbiology and a&p 2 together. it was a lot to study each week, but each class actually helped me in the other. many of the concepts were similar, so it was almost like i studied twice as much without even trying! its IS a lot to handle, but definitely do-able.

Personally, I would not. If you are taking A&P 1 you will learn some chemistry in the beginning. I could take chem with A&P 2 but I am not doing it, in fact looking forward in taking A&P 2 because I am taking it on its own and can totally focus on one subject but its always up to you.

i think it completely depends on your specific personality. with that said... i took chemistry II and human physiology [equivalent to A&P II] together and earned A's in both courses.

tons of material was presented and i studied my bottom off but it's doable.

I took chem II and A&P I together and it was fine. Of course I didn't have children or spouse to look after, but I did work full time and have a 2-3 hour round trip commute to work each day. It takes energy and focus, but it can be done (I got an A in both). Good luck!

wow that's alot of science courses together ....can you even do it like that? Where I live you can't do one before the other..it has to be Biology, then Chemistry then A&P I then A&PII then Microbiology...they won't let you do it any other way....... If you can do those together good for you! My brain would be mush or whats left of it anyway ....lol..good luck!

Are you working? If so how many hours? What was the heaviest credit load you carried when you got your bachelors degree? I'd take a good look at those questions. The thing about anatomy is there is no reason to wait for the semester to begin. Start now! Memorize all the bones, muscles and nerves. That way when the semester begins you will have a leg up so to speak and you can concentrate on the details - all the landmarks, origins, insertions, etc. Good luck with what you decide. I wouldn't do it personally if I were working. Otherwise, I would do it. But you need to decide what is best for you.

I took chem with a&p 1 and then micro with a&p 2. It really isn't too hard. There were difficult times, but it was better than I had expected. I don't work, but I am a SAHM of a 2 y/o. But if you do work full-time, it might not be a very good decision to take both sciences at once.

I took Micro and APII together, all I heard was "oh Noooo, you're gonna die!". LOL, it was doable though, I got A's in both, I had to study a lot, but it was doable. I know people that have taken Chem with Anatomy and done really well. As long as you stay organized and ontop of assignments you should be OK. You can do it, good luck!!

It is definatly doable IMO. I have always taken 2 science classes at the same time and always got A's, sure your going to study a lot but you might as well get used to it right? ;) I didn't work at the time but I did have 2 very small children to take care of. Everyone is different though, only you know what your limitations are.

I asked the same question, about two years ago, when I was thinking of doing the same thing. And it really depends on YOU. I took Anatomy and Chem together and it worked out fine. But I like science...

I have friends who tried to take two science classes together, and they weren't able to do it, it was just too much. It really depends on your personality, how well you've done on science classes in the past and how much you like them. I would think it'd be doable, especially since you won't be taking a lot of other things at the same time, so you can focus on them more. And multicollinarity has a good point-studying ahead is always a good idea.

Don't worry too much about it, though. Chances are you'll do fine :)

If you've never had chemistry before it can be tough. Chemistry isn't like other sciences and I found it difficult. (Could have been the professor. No one liked him!) I am taking Chemistry over this semester and getting a A so far. I studied my butt off for Chemistry but got a C, A&P, however I studied less and got an A. I have a different teacher this semester and I am doing much better. If you don't do as well as you like look to learn all that you can so your next go round is easier.
