When we check residual, should we turn off feeding pump for 10-30min?

Depends on why you are checking. If want to see when it is moving through check right before you turn off the feeding and at timed intervals therafter. Most of my folks clear their stomach within thirty minutes. This is usefull to indicate when positional changes are safe for folks who throw up often after feedings and are at risk for aspiration.

Doc's order is to check residual every 8 hours. Pt receives contineous feeding. When I check residual, should I turn off pump machine for at least 10-30 mins?

I would check your P&P manual or maybe a Lippincott if one is available. The policy for us is not to turn it off and there should be volume less than 1 hrs feeding (e.g. if rate is 50cc/hr residual should be no more than 50 cc). Hope this helps:twocents:
