changing boards of nursing initial licensure

Hello everyone,
Just wondering? having applied to the californian board, recieved att, scheduled nclex and started visa screen, and now me and my girlfriend would like to live in texas. Ive read its difficult to endorse from california, is it worth aplying to an easier board like new york. Is it possible or is there a way to get around the california problem.

Where are you from? The biggest problem is that California will not issue you the license without having a Social Security Number and you cannot endorse until you have an actual hard license. A license is not actually issued until you have the number, you only receive a letter stating that you have met all requirements and have three years to get the number to them.

There is no way around the California problem, this is why I never recommend CA for initial license for any foreign nurse.

But are there specific reasons why you are now choosing Texas? There are many more opportunities available for you in California. I personally would consider CA over Texas at anytime, especially with their humidity in the summer and I am used to living in Bangkok.

At this point, I would proceed with getting your NCLEX exam completed, as well as getting your Visa Screen Certificate thru California. When all has been completed and you definitely decide on where you want to go to, then apply there.

Have you found a job there yet? Also be very careful with some of the job offers down there, you may see offer for $10,000 per month but the work conditions are just horrendous. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is................

Thank you for your very speedy reply. Im British, and trained in Scotland. I aplied to ca because they didnt require cgfns exam, thought I could reduce a bit of paperwork. I am studying hard for nclex, we chose texas due to the climate and good real estate. We have travelled quiet a bit around Ca and Tx. Would love to work at the texas heart institute, I have plenty of experience in cardiac OR. I havnt sought employment because I would like to have Visa screen in hand and get married more to the point before i start filing for immigration.

your help is very much appreciated

Be careful with Texas if you are going because of the weather. Dallas actually has ice storms, and even snow sometimes. I recommend following the weather on CNN for sometime before actually picking an area where you want to live. Houston also has their share of problems...........

(I also have a long history of working CVOR.)

If you are not concerned with seeking employement yet, I would continue just the way that you were for now........get the Visa Screen Certificate, then things will be much easier for you.
